makes the 40mm GE1996T fit in thinner recessed router holes
Amazon currently only sells the Gotoh with the 40mm block, but buying this block (at least at the time of my purchase) still worked out cheaper than sourcing the Gotoh unit with a smaller block from factory. Now I can keep my backplate on.Also got a laugh out of the "free guitar pick" that was included with this, as it was easily the worst guitar pick I've ever seen in my life (I didn't know it was even going to be included)

gotoh 1996t only
This part is not for the Floyd rose special or original .it has a different bolt pattern than those.Even though it’s a license by Floyd design. The Gotoh is slightly different .It will not fit the Schaler either.excellent part but it did take awhile to ship..measure your block depth if your upgrading . Also this does share the same spring screws to lock in the springs like the factory gotoh block .

Fits my Floyd Rose Special (Jackson X Series guitar)
I went with a larger block. You can see the Musiclily block is a "40" and the one I replaced from my Floyd Rose Special tremolo was a "32". It fits, it works and it feels and sounds great. I can't say how much of a difference it makes exactly for overall tone, because I just swapped out pickups at the same time so... which is making the bigger difference? The block or the pickups? I'm going to go with pickups. The 40 is probably a smidge too big. If I put the trem cavity cover on it may be bumping into this block, but really, who keeps that thing on?
