BN-LINK 7 Day Programmable in-Wall Timer Switch for Lights, Fans and Motors, Single Pole and 3 Way (Compatible with SPDT) Both Use, Neutral Wire Required, White (No Backlight)

I'm not an electrician, but I figured this out:First, forget about configuring the settings. We're going to manually test the fan first.I would imagine most of the installations are like this one, if not they are probably very similar, and if not, at least these instructions will help you figure out which is the LOAD and which is the HOT.My builder's electrician installed TWO switches for the ceiling fan in my bedroom - one for a light in the ceiling fan and one for the fan itself.We're only concerned with the fan switch.1) Open the door of the breaker box. Turn off the breaker switch for the room.2) In the bedroom or wherever, Flip the switch on and off to be sure no power is flowing to the switch.3) Remove the cover (plate)4) Pull out both switches and slightly away from each other. Keep them apart.LOAD VS HOT: It's not necessarily color-matching!5) Look way back into the electrical/switch box. Look for the two biggest bundles of wires coming into the box. If you trace all the wires backward from the switches, they will eventually end up coming from one bundle or the other. These bundles will have one sheath around each bundle.6) One of the two bundles has a red wire. That's the LOAD bundle that runs from the switch to the ceiling fan. It's called the LOAD side.*In my case, the electrician installed the red wire from the LOAD bundle to the light switch. For the fan switch, the electrician used a black wire that I traced back into the LOAD bundle, so I attached the device's red wire to that. If the red wire had been connected directly to the fan switch, I would have simply connected RED to RED, but that wasn't the case.7) Obviously, the other bundle comes from the electrical breaker panel. This is the HOT side.Connect your BLACK wire to the BLACK wire you traced back from this bundle.Remember-> LOAD to LOAD and HOT to HOT, not necessarily color-matching.The EASY connections:WHITE : In the back of the wiring (switch) box, you'll find a bundle of white wires twisted together. Those are the neutral wires. Attach your white wire to these using the large (twist) wire nut that is already there. White to white.GREEN: Attach the green wire to the bare copper ground wire with one of the supplied (twist) wire nuts.Blue: Snip off the exposed wire and put a supplied twist wire nut on it.MANUALLY TEST THE FAN:Before bothering with the settings, we want to make sure the device is set to MANUAL OFF (read the instructions)In the breaker box, turn the power to the room on.In the room, do NOT touch any wires or brass screws, just the switches. Close the cover panel on the device and push on it. Hold it down for a moment. Your ceiling fan should start spinning.Alternatively, you could hold down both of the small round buttons at once.If the fan doesn't work, you have the LOAD and the HOT reversed. Turn off the breaker, and then switch those 2 wires. Try again. Now it should work. It won't break the device.If it still doesn't work, did you HOLD DOWN the switch cover for 5 seconds?If that doesn't work, call an electrician.Turn off the breaker, carefully shove all the wiring and switches back into the switch box, and put the plate covers back on.Now you can configure the settings.NOTE: There should be no exposed copper anywhere inside the switch box except the ground. Cut the length of the exposed wire before using the wire nuts so that the insulation is slightly inside the wire nut.

Easy to install but it will require a Futura style opening in the switch plate. If the installation is in an area with multiple switches, you will have to look a little harder to find a switch plate that has both Futura and standard openings in it. Easy to program which is good because you have to be at eye level with it in order to see the display. So get ready to be on your knees when you're programming this switch. 😟

Difficult to program sunset/sunrise setting initially. Had 2 timers installed by an electrician and wanted both programmed for sunset/Sunrise. First night they didn’t turn ON after dark so I manually turned them ON. In the morning I manually turned them OFF. Same for day 2. Re-Read instructions for “step 2 Setting On and Off Events” carefully. Easy to miss “press D/D KEY once”. This turns s/s ON. Just setting it in AUTO mode does not turn on s/s. Works well now after troubleshooting.

I never thought I’d be writing a review for a wall-mounted timer, but here we are. If you understood how many of these I’ve gone through, you’d get it. I’ll keep this as concise as possible.I have a large outdoor lighting setup with two Kichler low-voltage transformers—one for the front and one for the back of the house. On top of that, I have three high-voltage lights (two by the front doors and a lamppost), which are on a separate 110V system. The challenge is syncing these with the rest of the lights, so everything looks cohesive. Trust me, mismatched lighting is not a good look.I’ve tried countless timers from Amazon—most of them absolute junk. Digital timers mysteriously stop working, and analog ones somehow manage to be even worse. What you need for this type of setup is something simple and reliable. Many timers are overloaded with unnecessary features. Seriously, who needs 18 programming options? I have seven days in a week, not 18.This timer, however, hits the mark. It’s straightforward, easy to program, and comes with a built-in battery so you can set it up before wiring. There’s also a series of helpful YouTube videos from the manufacturer—skip the written instructions, they’re useless.To program it, press the reset button (unlabeled, but you’ll figure it out). Hit "Program" until all the days light up, then set your on/off times. Make sure it’s set to “Auto,” and you’re good to go.Bottom line: This is the best timer I’ve found after way too much trial and error. Here’s hoping it’s the last one I’ll need for a long, long time.

Device has a nice-sized display, bigger than most of the others available. Easy to read and program, if you follow the directions. Don't know why others have stated it's hard to program. It is a programmable timer.....Its larger than a standard switch, so some re-arranging of the wires in the switchbox may be necessary to make it fit. Make sure to turn off the power first. This timer must have a neutral (white) wire to work, also a ground (green or bare) wire. I like the D/D button - easy to program Dusk or Dark. Need to know approx sunrise and sunset times to help the timer to compute daily D/D times. Included plate, screws and wire nuts. This replaced a similar timer whose battery had died, and I did not know it until we lost power one night. Recommended !

It works, but the screen is nearly impossible to see at night, and the wiring is not very convenient. The switch plus the wires and wire nuts take up too much space in the wall box. It's very hard to fit in.

It appears the enclosed instruction are possibly for the same timer but an earlier or change version. Not even close. We had to view the setup video that is different from the printed included version of instructions. After the set-up from the video it appears, to this point to be working correct. Otherwise would be 5 stars.
