NICE

I really like this floppy drive. It has read every old floppy disk I have thrown at it. I am 72 and I do have some OLD floppies. The case is plastic just like everything is these days but, it is sturdy and solid. It has a noise interference coil on the data cable, that is a good thing, a dual connection, USB-C and USB to connect to Apple or IBM devices. Overall, if you need a floppy disk drive, this one has done this old man well.

RAAYYOO YAHOO

I was impressed. First that it arrived in one day. Second by the extensive users manual that described how to use the device and trouble shooting step. Next it was truly plug and play. Finally it worked. Although it did not read all the files, about 50%, It is better than I expected reading from 16 year old floppies that had been thrown in a box years ago.

Very good product and excellent tech support.

I purchased this drive and it works perfectly. I did have an issue with my computer seeing the drive. I worked with the best tech support I have ever had to resolve the problem which we did. I would purchase from them again anytime.

Power hungry

Once it finds the disk it reads mostly well. Form what I remember from old computers and hardware, you have a control line to turn the motor on and another control line that sets it to a zero track and syncs the interface. Depending on the disk (brand? age?) it starts fine or . . . it draws too much current from the USB port for the motor on seek 0 function.A software solution I don't expect will happen would be - turn motor on - delay - seek zero.My solutions as descibed by others. Retry when A: reports no disk found. Unplug and replug the USB cable (with stubborn disk in the drive). I beleive the unpluging the USB cable allows the USB power line recovery and the intial power up of the drive gets the motor spinning and then the head seeking while the USB power is marginally higher.Long term solution would be add an external power supply (I didn't see any USB drives with this option when I looked) or maybe open the case and add some capactance to the power line to provide extra power for the demand surges. All in all, it's doing what I bought it for - to transfer files from old 3.5 disks to the computer so I can store them all on CD or DVD disks. Once read successfully the 3.5s are going in the trash.I haven't tried the write function, or the format function. I have no plans to do so.

Flaky Operation with Win10/11

It's possible that this 3-1/2 inch floppy drive is not intended to work with Win10/11 as it is very flaky. The only reason I am keeping it is because I figured out a way that works most of the time for reading files on a floppy. The work-arounds are actually described in a document that is provided with the drive (so the problems are well known by the manufacturer).Frankly, some of the problems I saw were due to bad floppy discs. But the dominate problem I saw with known good floppy discs are that the drive would not recognize it as seen in Windows Explorer (it would not appear). Most of the time the solution was to unplug the drive USB connection and then, with the floppy inside the drive, plug the USB back into the computer. Occasionally the only solution was to reboot the computer. I expect to try this on my old Win7 computer later this year. The reason I haven't returned it and purchased another brand is that I suspect they are all identical designs and therefore likely have identical issues. The bottom line is that this is a poor design, but with patience its issues can be worked around.

Worked well out of the box

I copied around 25 old floppy discs without a problem.

One of two ordered worked properly

I ordered two of these but only one worked correctly. The 'bad' one needed to be rebooted every single time a disk was exchanged. and, needless to say, that one was returned. I think you take your chances purchasing one of these and receiving one that works correctly. I am happy with the one that works and hope it continues to do so. I am 50/50 recommending this drive due to the high failure rate of my order and many, many others encountering the same issue as noted in reviews.

It Works out of the Box

I have a ton of floppy's lot of pics I would like to have and some Documents that over the years I forgot about but realized would be nice to see what all is on there remembering some pics that were only on floppy. I have had this about a week. I was skeptical because of all the bad reviews and not just this one but all of them. So I decided take a chance on the cheaper one anyway I could always send it back. My main computer I built myself a couple years ago is with windows 10. I also just bought a Lenovo Flex 14 inch 2 in 1 Ryzen 3500 SSD 256 windpows 10 I am just setting up to travel with. My Floppy's are 18 to 25 years old 3 different brands.I received the Raayoo $11.99 in 2 days prime boxed nicely in perfect condition. No CD or instructions. (Really how hard is it you need instructions to plug in your USB.) I was planning to plug it in and search like crazy for it like a few said they did. Well I plugged it a little yellow light came on I took a look at my PC drives (I have 2 SSDs 500 and 256 and 2 large Hard Drives. ) To my great surprise it should up right on top as drive A no problem. All my disks worked. The biggest problem I hadd was my pics were in PDD format an old program abandoned long ago by adobe. I did some research and discovered adobe photoshop would open it. I was not about to spend that kind of money when I remembered I had an older adobe photoshop in my programs I haven't had need for. I installed it and sure enough I could open and change the photos to what I wanted in this case I changed them all to jpeg. I can also erase and add files if I want. Erasing is good as I don't have to worry about destroying them. I am having fun with the old floppy. I also thought well maybe I got lucky with my computer desk top. I then took the drive to my new Lenovo Flex 14 plugged it in boom showed right up as Drive A next my SSD. It plays everything there and does everything as my desk top. I cannot be happier having a ball with this thing works absolutely perfect on both computers with Windows 10. I highly recomend this drive for $11.99 you can't beat it. The quality is also solid.
