The Prince: The Secret Story of the World's Most Intriguing Royal, Prince Bandar bin Sultan

Prince Bandar is the Son of Sultan bin Saud--now second in line to the throne of Saudi Arabia. The Prince is a most interesting man. My husband first met him in Washington, D. C., when he had been selected to become the General officer in charge of the United States Military Training Mission in Saudi Arabia. It was then that we believe Prince Bandar approved Neil to become the new Chief of the USMTM. A few months later, when we had settled into our homes in Dhahran and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Prince Bandar appeared at our home in Dhahran and sat down for an informal visit. He is a most charming individual and I, too, was delighted to meet him. It was soon after that meeting, the Prince moved to Washington, D.C., where he became the Saudi Ambassador to the USA. Our tour there was an amazing time for both my husband and me, and as I was allowed to travel with my husband, I became immersed in the Kingdom's people and history. It was a fascinating time for both of us and we have some wonderful memories of the two years we lived in the land of oil, sand, camels and mystique.When I saw this book about the good looking Prince who came to my home one day for a visit, I couldn't resist ordering it as a gift for my husband. Intriquing, loved the insight into the Royals and finally learned the meaning of "Bin." Would recommend if you are curious about the saudi princes. Its long but take your time.

Prince Bandar is a very interesting member of the House of Saud. He is the link between the West and The Kingdom. This is a must read for all who are curious about the Saudis. You get to look into the way The Kingdom works and why it is so mysterious to Westeners who only know one side of this Dynasty. If you have never read a book on Saudi Arabia, start here.

Not that intriguing a character. The author is a very goooooooood friend of the subject and is obviously very bias.

The political maneuvers described are very interesting. The intrigues and solutions acted, and by which we, people of the world has, and had, to live by because of them, are mind bugling. Also, the Prince character is of interest.

I'm still in the first chapters. So far, I'm enjoying my reading. I'll make my final review once I finish reading the book.

I keep track of world affairs pretty closely. What is different about this book is that it is world affairs (primarily the Middle East) seen through the eyes of the Saudis....specifically Prince Bandar bin Sultan. As Saudi Ambassador to the US, he met with Carter, Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton and Bush 2. It covers the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through the decades. It covers the Iran-Contra Affair, the Khobar Towers bombing and Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait. Everything is written is a very clear, concise manner that is easy to understand. If you want to get a better understanding of the diplomatic Kabuki dance between Saudi Arabia and the US, this book is a must read.
