Working well with SmartThings and Hue

I have this set up to turn on/off my Hue kitchen lights based on motion and light level in the room using SmartThings. Working great. The unit's light sensor is helpful because it means you are only triggering the room lights to turn on when it is actually dark. SmartThings lets you include this parameter when programming the action to turn on the lights. With SmartThings, you can also program the room light(s) to turn off when motion is not detected for a period of time. This motion sensor is accurate enough to handle it.It has a noticeable green light in the upper-right corner of the front face that flashes when it detects motion. It is noticeable and brighter than typical. According to the documentation and some forums, you can access the customization parameters to disable the green light and adjust a few other parameters. I didn't dive that deep. These options aren't on the surface in SmartThings and require more advanced knowledge.Of course, you can use this motion sensor as a trigger for all sorts of things. I'm just using it for my Hue lights.I'm not using the temperature sensor but it does work.Overall, I am satisfied with this sensor. It reliably picks up motion and the light sensor makes it perfect for my application. I am getting no false triggers. Plus, it's small. The only downside is the green light on motion. It's a little bright. Minor.(photo: the motion sensor is sitting next to a SmartThings button on a shelf in front of a window)

Works well with OpenHAB, quick detection, adjustable sensitivity

I have three of these in my home so far, and will probably add a couple more. They are doing double-duty as temperature sensors for my thermostat control and motion detection for presence. Including these with OpenHAB is much like including any other battery powered z-wave device. Be sure to keep it awake while the configuration completes (a long press on the interior button will do that for you). OpenHAB will generate an XML when your inclusion was completed successfully. All three units I have work well with the OpenHAB z-wave binding and have been reporting reliably. They also don't use up much battery at all, lasting well over a year. There is an adjustable sensitivity which could prove useful if you have pets. I had to adjust the sensitivity way down from its maximum (range 0-11) to avoid detecting my 60 lb dog. I don't know how accurate they are in terms of temperature or lux measurements, but the units I have are at least consistent with each other.

Very inaccurate temperature reading - 4.8 F off at room temp

I have this sensor next to a Honeywell and WH31E temperature sensor all indoors within 12 inches of each other. Both other sensors agree that it is 74 degrees F, the Aeotec sensor reads 78.8 F. Come on guys, its temperature, how hard could it be? The motion sensor works fine. I can't tell how accurate the light sensor is but it seems to reflect light and dark appropriately. But being so inaccurate on temperature is not useful to me as I need to detect freezing versus non-freezing so a 4.8 degree swing at room temperature is a non-starter.Update 3/23/2022This device is incredibly unreliable when integrated with Smartthings routines. I set a temperature alert and it sent a notification exactly once and never again. I added a battery alert and a motion alert and the temperature notifications just stopped. I've confirmed the routine is there, confirmed the device was awake, monitored all the events in debug mode and... nothing. At the very least I would not plan on using this with smartthings unless you want to spend days trying to figure out why it wont consistently do what it is clearly setup correctly to do.Update 2/22/2025Something happened with the acquisition of smartthings with Aeotec. I've got a house full of Aeotec devices that are either offline or not working properly. The whole move to Edge drivers was a disaster. Don't invest in this brand of automation. All my outlets are offline with no solution and all my Trisensors no longer report battery status or allow configuring F vs C or adding routines. Invest in some other brand of home automation. I've been totally burned by investing in this mess.

Z-wave 800, quick and versatile. Don't buy if you prefer powering over USB

Good device, but no tamper detection, so I would not recommend placing it in your garage. The Multi-sensor 7 is a better option for security, and versatility. Being a Z-Wave device, this TriSensor has a slight delay in motion detection, but it is quick for a Z-Wave sensor. Lux readings are way off. If you use this with SmartThings, you will want to download the device handler from the Aeotec Group for customizing settings and showing you only the sensors that the device has. This device does not have USB-power, so if you hate buying and replacing batteries, don't buy this. It comes with 2 batteries, and it has decent battery life though with the default settings, and you can tweak the timings and cool down to be more conservative with the Aeotec Group device handler if you want better battery life.
