Nice job, Behringer!

I chose this nifty analogue monophonic synth because first of all, it has many resources and tweaks to make almost any hard-core vintage analogue sound you can imagine, thanks to their true multi-wave oscilators, nice filters and effects (compressor/analogue delay), but most of all the great patchbay. Very fun to squeeze original sounds for electronic music!I think it's also an originally engineered synth from Behringer (no copy from other synths, which are good also, by the way...)Only problem I have (that's why it's not 5 stars) is the PC interface app... I'm having trouble to connect it to Windows (7, 10 or 11)... I can't figure out the firmware also (I don't think it has to be updated, since I recently bough it... don't really want to mess up with any firmware updates...) But honestly, can live with that... USB MIDI connection is noisy, but with legacy MIDI the synth has no noise at all.UPDATE: After some research, I finally found out that the firmware was out of date. I downloaded the firmware update (2.0.2) and another driver (STM32 BOOTLOADER) as instructed in MusicTribe. Now the app is linked to the Neutron and up & running. Yayyy!!

Love It!!

First of all, I have 2 other Behringer synths, The D and the Pro 1. All good build quality. The Neutron is a different beat all together. I love the Red color and the Led lighting it has. The sound you can create is superb. Now, To update the Firmware is just RIDICULOUS!!! The other 2 update with a nice app. The Neutron uses some 3rd arty app that makes you change the USB driver to be able to connect then you lose MIDI in doing this, you then have to change USB driver back to get the firmware to work and it connect to your system. Also you might get the LFO freeze glitch n the firmware as well. It happened to em and i had to back the firmware down to a lower then step it back up to not get the glitch. Download the USB STM Driver which can be found HERE [https://zadig.akeo.ie/] Its a real pain in the ass to get this all done. After it is done. ROCK SOLID Performance!!!1. Connect the Neutron synth to a power source, but ensure that the unit is switched off.2. Connect the USB socket on the Neutron synth to a USB 2.0 connection on the computer.NB: please ensure that there is no MIDI cable connected to the MIDI IN port of the Neutron. The unit may fail to update is this cable is in place.3. Run the Update program at which point you should be presented with this screen:4. With a paperclip (or similar) press & hold the recessed BOOT button on the back panel of theNeutron (the BOOT button is accessed through a small hole adjacent to the Input jack on the rearof the unit).5. With the Boot button still pressed, power on the Neutron synth then release the Boot button. If the Neutron is correctly in Boot mode, the Square Wave leds on both oscillators will be litand all other leds and buttons on the unit will be unlit, see image below. If this is not the case, please repeat the above steps to put the unit into Boot mode beforecontinuing. The update procedure will not work unless the unit is in Boot mode.Wait for the DFU Updater to detect the Neutron, at which point you should see this message7. When the DFU Updater has detected the Neutron, click the Update button to start theupdate process. If you instead see a communications error at this point, please refer to point 2 in theTroubleshooting section at the end of this document on how to install the correct USBdriver before proceeding. The Updater detects the Neutron, but clicking on the Update button shows acommunication error message. This issue is probably a result of the computer not having the correct USB drivers installedfor the Neutron. These instructions describe installing (or updating) updating the USB driver on your computer, and only needs doing once:• Download the USB STM Driver which can be found HERE• Connect the Neutron to the computer via a USB cable• Ensure the Neutron is placed into DFU update mode by pressing and holding the BOOTbutton while powering on the unit• Run the STM Driver utility executableNOTE - PLEASE DO NOT POWER OFF THE UNIT UNTIL THE UPDATE IS COMPLETE.From the Options menu, ensure List All Devices is ticked• Select ‘STM32 BOOTLOADER’ from the Device drop down boxClick “Upgrade Driver” (if the driver is not already installed) or “Reinstall Driver” (if a previousversion of the driver is already installed on the PC) and this will install the version of theWinUSB driver that the Neutron requires so it is seen as the correct device

near-unbeatable for the price

You wanna make big ceiling-shaking basslines? Piercing leads? Generative labcoat beeps? Maybe some of that good constantly-evolving drone music? Maybe you just wanna move on from simpler synths and get a taste of what modular systems can do, or get better at synthesis? This thing's got you.Oh, and it's a eurorack module if you want it to be. Comes with a eurorack power cable, just undo a few screws and drop it in a eurorack system. Make sure your power supply is up to the task, uses a fair bit of power. That should be expected from all its features, though. It does not have a keyboard or sequencer. If you wanna do more than generative patches, you'll need either a midi controller, a computer, or a cv/gate controller to play this thing. This is absolutely fine for $300, just get a keystep or something (or just a usb cable and your DAW) to go with it and you're still looking at a system that hits way above its price.I have a few minor gripes about it, all of which can be solved by expanding on it with eurorack modules. The delay is kinda janky sounding (has a certain lo-fi charm to it, though), the envelopes have too short a release, and it could _really_ do with a second VCA and LFO. Again though, $300, this is insanely cheap for the functionality. I don't think I could even DIY something like this for $300. Just a couple years ago you'd spend four figures for a system with comparable features.

Quality Analog for Less

This is my first analog synthesizer and I'm not looking back. I always lacked is a nice low end in my tracks and always wondered why I cannot get it to sound so good like popular artists whether I use serum, sylenth1 etc. Neutron is amazing at bass sound, very nice and deep! As well as at everything else too. Filter sounds great! You will not be disappointed. I am definitely gonna get more analog synthesizers and try moog, heard nothing beats it's filter, so that's my next on the list) Neutron is the best investment I made, I got so many possibilities for the price.

A great EuroRack entry level synth !!

Bought it before my eurorack endeavor.now about 5k$ in & still using the WT Osc's on the unit regularly because they sound beefy + the LFO is nice !Be advised that some parts of the signal path have a relatively high noise floor (at least in my unit). The delay & filter for instance.imho that is to be expected as this synth packs a very nice tool bag for its price!!!
