Amazing Quality

I'm getting a bit started on this model scale building, and went for fighter planes since I have liked them a lot since I was a kid. I bought this as my 4th kit, and first on the 1:48 scale. While I noticed that this model has been repackaged with new box designs, it has maintained an amazing quality. Pieces gave me no fit problems, and rarely did I use putty to fill some gaps (although caused by my errors).I have to say that this kit is somewhat advanced, and it took me a while to complete, but I'm really happy with the result. I used panel liner, putty, and primer for this, and I really enjoyed building this!Highly recommend

9/10

It's great. The Panels lines are nice, clean and deep. Nice, easy, and simple to put together. Overall, it's great. My only complaint is that the front section of the Top and Bottom half is consistently mismatched. The bottom is slightly less wider than the top half. I have three models and it appeared in all three.

Three drop tanks.

Very nice.... Three drop tanks.... two choices of missiles which could use an update. It has thin metal rods in the landing gear which is an improvement on some other kits.... I also like that it has gear doors for either sitting on the ramp, or flying. The Tail decals (EG and FF) are essentially obsolete, however they are accurate for their period. It has the three stars for the Eglin bird that was a triple MIG killer. All things considered, this is a pretty good F-15C model. The fuel tanks and overall good fit makes this the best value C model.

So-So kit from Tamiya

This kit came out in 1988, and was refit twice in the early 1990s - so the mold is really starting to show it’s age compared to the newer kits out there. Tamiya kits are well renowned for ease of assembly and excellent fit - and this kit doesn’t disappoint in that area - which shows how good Tamiya quality has been over the decades. That said, if you want an accurate and super detailed F-15C you’re better off looking at Hasegawa’s 1:48 Eagle.High Points - Most of the panel lines are engraved, but the tail elevators are oddly raised…. No flash whatsoever, and Tamiya even strengthened the landing gear with metal rods - just in case. The APG-63 radar is nicely detailed if you want to leave the nose cone off to show it off.Low Points - Accuracy on the Jet Nozzles is way off - and the general details on the panel lines are not as good as the similarly aged Hasegawa F-15C. The cockpit instrument panels are flat, and screams after-market if you want to doll it up.To sum it up, this kit is like the TV series Babylon 5 - It was great for its time, but has since been eclipsed by other manufacturers. If you are debating between the Tamiya F-15C and the Hasegawa version, go with Hasegawa - though you will have to spring for additional armaments to fill out the other loading stations. If you are new to model kits, it’s a good kit to break into the hobby with.

The beginner modeler needs to experience older Tamiya

This is an older mold of tamiya(early nineties i believe). Tamiya is the pennicle of plastic models and is a AAA TITLE. They are well known in the model community as the best when it comes to fit and accuracy. This kit has its issues, but makes a great looking kit for all to see. The beginner can hone their skills on a kit that doesn't need alot of work.. Watch the intakes as fitment isn't great, but test fit, test fit, test fit always first to achieve correctly placement of intakes. It does lack detail in places like nozzles and seats.(I'd go after-market) but if not, as long as you the your time, this will be a great looking kit. You will have to putty and sand in some areas as intakes and between main wing and tail section. Not much, but a little if you want to hide the seam. Simple you can't beat this kit for the money.

Good fun build for beginner or otherwise.

This is not a typical Tamiya high detail plane. that being said, it is easy to build and does have panel lines. If you are a pro who likes to make the cockpit and landing gear bays so real looking that you could fly the thing is someone shrunk you, then you will be disappointed to know the control panels in the cockpit are flat and have flat decals for the detail. So I like doing that sort of thing, but this was still fun and easy to build. And it has enough detail to where it's not just stupid.A beginner will love this model.5 stars if you know what you are getting and not expecting a fully detailed accurate model.

Typical very high quality model kit

When ordering any Tamiya kit, I've found every one to be of very high quality. The fit and finish of all the parts is just about the best I've seen. I'd almost compare it to Bandai for fit! Highly recommend all Tamiya kits for any serious model builder

a lot of putty and file work

I've been building Tamiya kits for many years and I still consider the airplane kits the best on the market. I'm also a fan of their RC kits. However, I must have got a bad production line on this F-15 kit. If you buy this kit make sure you have plenty of putty on hand (and a good file) because there's a lot of parts that just do not fit.
