Great little cooker that does work well
This thing works, its inexpensive and my wife uses it every day for me, I thought it was junk when she bought it but it works, its used everyday in our house by my wife and daughter, she wanted a more expensive one from the network sellers on cable but this suits the bill, just hope it last a long time.

Yuck!!!
They sent me a dirty machine. Gross and smokes from old grease when I plugged it in. Very disappointing!!!

Not so good
I think 2 stars is pretty generous. I WILL be able to use this to cook for my toddler. You can make a pretty thick waffle but pancakes are tiny and the panini plate is just big enough for a slice of Wonder Bread or similar. Works great for a grilled cheese or panini if it's small. The grill takes about 3 minutes to warm up. Once ready you can cook a waffle or pancake in less than 5 minutes but it's trial and error. The lights, which I'll cover a little later, don't indicate when your food is ready. Grilled cheese or panini takes 5 minutes or so. The recipes in the instruction manual don't give cook time for anything but paninis. There is no way to turn this thing off except by unplugging. LIFTING LID DOES NOT CUT THE POWER; IT CONTINUES TO HEAT UP WITH THE LID OPEN. This makes no sense as the instructions tell you to let it cool 5 minutes after cooking before starting something new yet neglect to tell you that unplugging it is the only way to let it cool. Instructions also say to not run it continuously for more than 15 minutes, SO MAKE SURE TO UNPLUG IT! The outer case is plastic and I'd assume melting is a concern. There are 2 lights on the unit, an orange one and an orange one. I think they're supposed to be green and red but they use an orange bulb under the colored green and red plastic so it just comes up as orange. Anyway, the "green" light comes on when it's warming up, turns off when ready to cook. It will keep clicking on and off as it keeps the grill at temperature, so it's not telling you when your waffle is ready. The "red" light stays on the whole time and I guess is telling you it's plugged in?Cleanup is easy but you need to wait 20 minutes or more before it's cool to the touch. Hopefully you unplugged it!So if you're cooking for one, preferably one small child, you might find this handy. I would not recommend it otherwise.***UPDATE***I'm finding cook times to be too inconsistent to replace my waffle maker. The first time cooking waffles they were taking less than 5 minutes. The next time I cooked waffles it was taking over 10 minutes per waffle. Once it got up to temperature and the light went off I added batter. For the first 5 minutes the "green" light stayed off (I timed it), so it wasn't staying at temperature. I had to wait for the light to come back on, then go off for several minutes, then come back on and cook for a couple more minutes before my waffles were done. My regular waffle maker cooks a much bigger but thinner waffle in about a minute and I can adjust the temperature, where there is no way to control temperature with this.

Tiny
This is actually okay for a college dorm room or single apartment - somewhere you're cooking for one. Just remember to unplug it as there's no auto-disconnect!Very small - basically the size of a grilled cheese sandwich. I really wouldn't use it for waffles or pancakes because you can't use it for too long or it can overheat. Unless you really just want one tiny waffle or pancake.Cute idea, but not so good in the execution.Still, it's a solid grilled cheese sandwich!

Good for travel and for one or two waffles or sandwiches.
I have preschoolers that love waffles and a generally just make them on the weekends with our waffle maker that makes four at a time. That's way too big to pull out for two waffles during the week so this ends up being perfect. I also have zero counter space and it wanted a panini maker for a while but never got one for that very reason.I can used just a bit of waffle mix and make two waffles inside of a couple of minutes. in total with cooking it takes me about 8 minutes to make them and cook them. That does include mixing. All I have to do to clean up is pop the plates out and wash them with my soft bristle brush. I did have sticking issues so I put a good amount of non-stick spray on them and I'm fine. These actually make good size waffles. As far as the panini goes, you can't do large slices of bread but I can do nice pressed sandwiches out of small batch sourdough or regular loaf sized bread. I actually press down on the lid (using the handles) to get a truer panini feel. There's not really enough weight on the top to do otherwise. Everything is nice crispy toasted and melted. There is no on or off switch for this waffle maker. He plug it in and wait for a heat up until it turns red. It supposedly good for about three batches of whatever you're cooking and then it needs to cool down. That has to happen by unplugging. The outside does get hot. You can quickly tap it without burning yourself but you're not going to want to put your hand on it for long. So this is definitely, not a kid friendly appliance. I like the fact that it's tiny and when it's done I can close it up and tuck it away easily. The only thing I wish, is that there was some sort of self-contained way to keep the plates together. That is a huge pet peeve of mine and my favorite appliances tend to be able to have some way to keep everything together. This is not your company, Christmas, weekend cooker but for yourself or your kids in the a.m. it's probably a safe bet. I have not used the round plates yet but as I sit here I think it would probably be a quick way to 'fry' an egg with little mess that you don't have to babysit too long. Overall, if you need something space saving or for travel, this is a good bet.
