Pretty much animal proof. Has sturdy plastic prongs along all sides of the bottom which are easy to pound in with a mallet or whatever you have. Only problem I’ve come across is that it’s blowing over in high winds because it isn’t full enough yet. A rock on top should fix it for now.

I would not put bin on grass treated with pesticides. I have not used grass nor pesticides on my compost bins and I doubt if it will compost well or at all.

Q: While pouring food scrap, can the lid be handled with only one hand easily?

The lid is easily unlatched by just pulling it up on either side.
