Affordable and fantastic

So far, we have quite liked the performance offered by this adapter. Making this a perfect solution for mobile solutions thanks to its small size. It would work fine for stationary setups as well. However, you might want to consider a full dock solution that has a 2.5G option for maximum potential and minimal wires. Either way, the price is decent, the size is decent, the weight is decent. It is plug-n-play and is ready to go in no time at all after plugging it into a Windows 10 system (or newer) system. No hassles and the performance is fantastic. We expected it to not be as dependable as some of our pricier options. However, it did a good job of keeping up with sustained transfer speeds to match them all mostly. Not bad for the price and it is nice to see some of the 2.5G options come down in price. Now if only the 5G and 10G options could follow as well.**If you have found our review helpful, please vote it as helpful below so we know. This helps us to provide quality feedback in the future.

Cheap 2.5Gbit/s connectivity (see details). Recommended

I'll admit that aside from an early foray into 10Gbit/s Ethernet, with two switches for my server room, I resisted implementing it throughout the rest of my home network just due to cost. With 2.5Gbit/s, though, the cost has finally gotten reasonable to get most of my creator workflow machines on something faster than 1Gbit/s. I don't see the point in spending $80 more for a motherboard with features I don't need, just so I can get a 2.5Gbit/s onboard NIC, when I can just get a $30 PCIe x1 NIC, or something like the Accell USB-C to 2.5G Ethernet Adapter (U187B-007B-2).While I don't love running Ethernet off of USB in general, I'm not super concerned about pushing 2.5Gbit/s on a 5 or 10Gbit/s USB port in a pinch. I use the Accell to move large files off of my two laptops (most of my machines are normal desktops), and have been happy with the performance. Chariot logs show sustained transfers around 2.28Gbit/s, though my other 2.5Gbit/s NICs manage closer to theoretical limit (maybe USB overhead?). Regardless, it's a good result, and roughly comparable to a Sabrent USB to 2.5Gbit/s adapter. The device was detected in Windows 10 (20H2 build) in seconds. Stable connections and fast transfers - and basically none of the Intel I225-V mess. I don't dual boot my laptops into Linux, but it should be supported there, too. Recommended

Fast and stable connections!

Many new "ultrabook" class laptops don't have ethernet ports - which makes sense given the prevalence of fast wifi and the need to save as much space in such laptops as possible. At the same time, sometimes you need the sustained stability (and, with 2.5GBe, the speed) that a wired connection can bring.Enter a "dongle" like this one. Using the rapidly spreading USB-C connection as a high speed data port, it gives your laptop (or desktop, even) an instant 2.5G ethernet connection. In testing with my laptop, running Windows 10, I didn't even have to install a driver, it was plug and play and gave me a near immediate and fully stable 2.5G connection. Note, that to see 2.5G speeds, you need a router or switch that is capable of those speeds and a compatible Cat-5e or higher cable - otherwise, per the standard, it will default to gigabit. But here you get a useful dongle, plug and play capability and steady and fast connections right out of the box - what more could you ask for?

You Need This in Your Tech Bag

Get this thing in preparation for those "what-if" scenarios. I wasn't sure how useful this adapter would be but I've used it half a dozen times, which more than pays for itself. I had one computer that Windows didn't have the drivers pre-installed so rather than hunting them down on another computer, putting them on a usb drive and bringing them over, I can just plug this adapter in and let Windows Update at least try to get the right driver automatically. I've also used it in Security Onion and PFsense applications without any issues.

Works out of the box on my MacBook air M1. Doesn't report 2.5Gbe on OS X, but does on my switch

This is extremely affordable for what it is. If you have a 2.5Gbe or better wired network, this is probably the easiest way to connect to it.Oddly, the listing stated that drivers were included, but there was nothing but the dongle in the package. Accell's website doesn't host drivers for this either. That being said, it was plug and play but only reported 1000 mb/s on my MacBook Air M1. The switch I connected to had negotiated a 2500 mb/s connection, so I'm assuming Mac OS 11 is not reporting correctly, or can't count higher than 1000 (despite, or perhaps because, Apple selling a 10Gbe computer). I was able to transfer at just over 2000 mb/s even with my mac reporting a lower negotiated speed. It does get a little toasty while transferring... so if longevity is an issue I'll update my review. If you need a wired LAN adapter anyway (particularly if your computer includes no useful ports), it may be wise to spend a little more on this if you're thinking of upgrading your LAN to multi gig soon.

Fast, cheap and good! 2.5G at 1G prices

This 2.5Gbps USB network adapter is perfect for adding increased networking speeds to your desktop or laptop without breaking the bank. The dongle is plug and play in both Windows and Macs. Achieved 2.5G speeds without any issues over Cat 6 wire connected to my 5 port 2.5G switch. It does get a little toasty when performing large transfers but nothing that gets too hot to the touch. Recommended.

Like the product

This worked great since I had a new laptop without any Ethernet ports.

Up your speed

Use this to connect a Dell 27" all in one to a QNAP 2.5GBe switch. Mainly use it to download files from the QNAP NAS which also have 2.5Gbe port. Downloads are now over twice as fast as when using the built-in 1GBe ethernet port.
