Made in China: When US-China Interests Converged to Transform Global Trade
G**F
Repetitive and Presumptive
The text is well-cited and does address some of the important events in the important time period surrounding the development of normalized US-China relations, but it comes across as highly repetitive and verbose. In my opinion, the length could be reduced by 50% with no loss of value to the reader. More disappointingly, the author repeatedly injects value judgements in the form of paragraphs that read like a Saturday Night Live skit that satirizes liberal academia. These needlessly judgemental statements on the actions of the different players in history fall squarely in the "white man bad" category. Rather than trying to presume what the players of history thought or valued and judging it accordingly, a formal text like this should stick to the facts, words, and actions of the historical players and let the reader make their own assessment. There are many other good works on US-China relations, and I encourage prospective buyers to look elsewhere.
