Firstly the negatives - the copy being sold here is the cheaper spin master version and the English rules are on a low quality black and white photocopy. Now the positives - the game is an excellent abstract strategy that’s easy to learn but has a lot of depth. I’ve taught my 6 yr old to play it (and have been beaten several times too) but it’s just as at home in my game group of board game loving adults.

It's a pretty game, but if you can't cope with tough head-to-head abstract strategy games, don't think the prettiness and the god power cards are going to make it any better for you. I sold mine.

Fantastic game!

Santorini is both fun and quick to play (a game takes 5-10 minutes). The artwork and components are of really high quality which makes building the towers of Santorini a really satisfying experience. Perhaps the best thing about this game is the perfect way in which it balances ease of play with a depth of strategy. Each player choses to play as one of the Greek gods or goddesses, with each one having a special ability. There are 30 different gods and goddesses in the main box which means that this game never gets old as every time you play your strategy will be different. However, if players want to, they can choose not to pick a god card at all and just play the basic version of the game which is honestly just as fun. The 3D island board you play on is pretty cool to play, though a tad unnecessary.There are a lot of people who don't like abstract games where there is a lot of back and forth between 2 players controlling their own set of pieces (think chess, go, checkers etc), but Santorini's simple design and theme almost makes it feel like you are not playing an abstract game at all, and I have found that many of my friends who don't enjoy those types of games have enjoyed playing this one (and even requested to play more).Note: There are originally two companies that sold this game: Roxley Games and Spin Master Games, both of which are (at the time of writing) much cheaper to purchase on Amazon.com. I purchased the Spin Master Games version from there, which is the cheaper of the two as it does not come with the sea board which you may have seen the island sitting on in various pictures or video reviews. My version came with enough pieces for three players to play the game, but I have only ever played it with two and can't see that the game would be as good with more than this.

The game is good quality. The only negatives that the instructions are a black & white photocopy (no big deal, at least they're included) and it's very plasticky - it would be lovely in wood like a quality chess set.I really love the gameplay. It's strategic so suitable for adults but also simple enough for my 5 yr old to play. It was quite even at first but now I play without a god power to even it up. My wife is less keen on the game but I don't really understand why.Two player plays well and three player works but the board can be a bit busy. The rules can be a bit unclear with three players.The god powers work really well and add a fun dimension to the game. Sometimes it's surprising how effective some god powers are! There are a few that we don't bother with as they don't play so well.Set up and gameplay are nice and quick so long attention span isn't required.Definitely recommended!
