Bought it for my niece whose 21 & still a Tom boy. I was a bit surprised to learn she didn't know here direction. I.e.c N,S,E,W.bcuz she's very smart and geographical knowledgeable.However, I have found most kids and adults don't have a sense of direction and if lost couldn't be found without a cell phone or other electronic trackers.In fact, I believe 99.99% of our children today couldn't tell you which way is which on their own .We're loosing our culture and natural instincts. So I got this for my niece bcuz she lost one someone gave here and has always been intrigued by them.However, i don't believe either the compass or case is handmade and while both beautiful, this one is more decorative then durable. Good for hanging from the car mirror like my niece does and definitely works well. But it's fragile.Happy shopping !!

All over the place and when using for work will definitely get you in trouble for going off of the line you should be on, guess it'd be ok for backpacking, camping, etc. Just nothing serious like surveying
