Below you will see my 5 star positive review for this humidifier that I purchased in July, 2023 and which started to smoke tonight, February 17, 2024. When I went into the room where the unit runs almost constantly, I saw white smoke pouring out of the area from which the steam usually emits. It mustn't have been doing it for long because the room wasn't full of smoke.When I took the machine apart, the water in the base was extremely hot. I am very grateful that I found it when I did. I had just cleaned it last night. In my rave review of the product, I didn't mention that I got no directions for the unit; there were none inside the box. I was just cleaning the way I thought I should until I found some directions on line. I just noticed, in reading the many one-star reviews, that others mentioned the connection leading to the base rusting. I checked the connection on mine and sure enough, that is what happened to mine.I cannot recommend any more strongly the dangers of this device. Under no circumstances should anyone buy it. Who knows how long it would have smoked until it set the smoke alarm off but what if it had been in the room of a baby, with a closed door? This is totally unacceptable. It is after midnight, my time, but after watching TV, I realized I needed to write this review now or I would not sleep tonight. Tomorrow, I shall do some research on how such a device could be sold in this country. I thought everything had to be UL approved. My unit didn't just die; it started to smoke and could have conceivably caused a fire!MY EARLIER REVIEW:Due to a Medical Condition, I have very dry skin and dry eyes. It's important that I keep a humidifier going all the time in my bedroom. I have tried other models but this is the absolutely perfect Humidifier for me. My bedroom is a bit large and I may have been better buying the larger version but when I run this one on the Automatic feature, I can keep the humidity at a constant 40% or higher level. I can tell by how my eyes feel in the morning, what a good job it is doing. We are lucky in that our town's water is pumped from a well and is exceptionally free from any impurities. I run this using water I purify using a Pur water-filter pitcher. The build-up when I clean it, is minimal and easy to do. I would recommend this humidifier to anyone who needs to humidify dry air or has a baby with a cold. It is the best I've tried!

Update: I contacted seller and they refunded me on all 3 and offered to replace it for free but I was worried it will stop working again. Great communication and very responsive. Thank you.I bought 3 in the last year, 2 of them have already stopped working. Im not happy with this purchase at all even though when they do work, they’re great. I used them in my kids’ bedrooms at night.
