Q: Does this product have a long shelf life once opened? Also how many 12 inch mats would it restick?

Not sure on shelf life. I think it is worth the money even after only re-sticking 1 mat. I don't use my ScanNcut very often so even if the glue pen dried up I would definitely buy it again as it's cheaper than a new mat. I believe Brother have changed their mats now and they are meant to be better....time will tell. HTH

Q: Can these pens be used to write on balloons?

This glue pen has a 15mm wide tip so any lettering would have to be large or you would lose defintion & the balloons would need to be filled with air to give you sufficient area to write your message. Zig glue pens are available in a variety of tip shapes & sizes perhaps a smaller tip would be better for writing. The glue is pale blue when first applied, if contact is made with another surface while the glue is blue a permanent bond will form. If you leave the glue to dry without it touching another surface it remains tacky so anything applied at this stage can be peeled off and repositioned. If you just want to write a message on the balloons and not actually glue anything to them, you might be better with a permanent ink pen like a Sharpie or Stabilo, Amazon have a huge selection of this type of pen and they come in many colours with different writing tips.
