Q: would this fit over a milk crate/ hold it in place?

It would fit over the top of a standard square milk crate to keep items inside from bouncing out over the top. It would not fit over the entire crate to also secure it to the bike rack. I recommend heavy duty zip ties or hose clamps to attache a milk crate to a bike rack.

Q: Are the clips on the grid version removable?

Yes, they are clipped on and slightly difficult to thread back out but they are removable. thanks delta

I almost skipped an answer to this question because the way it's phrased it's really more of a rant than a genuine question that hasn't *already* been answered on the product page. So my answer includes a counter-rant... :( grumpy gets grumpy :( While you are correct and the size is NOT stated in the product information, it is readily available from other shoppers/purchasers. Just to be sure that you could have found the information in the Q&A without posing an additional, crankily-stated question, I searched the term "size" in the Q&A and an answer from 2017 popped right up. There's also a video from Tom Hornstein on the product page that illustrates using the net, and in it he talks about the size as well. I agree with others that the resting size of the net is about 8" by 8" but I disagree that it could *successfully and repeatedly* stretch to 2 or 3 times its size. If the silicone doesn't break, the hooks probably wouldn't take the stretch-stress very well. But I'm not using it as a cargo-net, so I don't know about that... I hope this answers your question
