Cool concept, could be prettier

Great dice for a DM who needs to improvise things they didn't plan for, like rolling for the current weather when it might have an impact on a certain druid spell. I got both sets so I can roll for what treasure type the party found in a random encounter, I can determine a direction: North, East, South, West, NE, NW, SE, and SW (useful for when a gadget misfires or a spell causes a creature run off in a random direction). Also I can determine the mood of a no-name NPC I had to invent on the spot, or I can determine which body part was affected by an attack (head, right hand, etc.). I can roll for a random terrain like swamp, village, forest, etc. (great when a teleportation spell goes awry.) A less useful pair of dice lets you generate random dungeons - one die describes dungeon passageway features (right turn, T-intersection, dead end, steps, chamber entrance, trap, secret door, flooded area, passageway obstacle, etc.). Another die tells you what major feature is found inside a room or chamber (fireplace, chest, statue, altar, dais (maybe with a throne on it?), bed, pool (could say it's a magic mirror or fountain?), well (could say it's a magic portal or dungeon pit?), stairway, ceiling and floor trap doors. I think they left out some key room features that would have improved this die: shelves/bookshelves, cage/prison bars, and a magic circle for summoning/ritual/teleportation. The symbols on the dungeon-generating dice can be cryptic, so you have to use the key they included. Also the dice could be prettier. Another company makes similar random-generator dice for DMs, and their dice are better looking but they don't have as many useful dice types. I opted for functionality over aesthetics.

Fun dice!

I love dice like this, with unusual art for generating random… things. Characters, locations, quests, anything like that. I’m torn on how much I care about the lack of legend, I ultimately toss all my dice in a bag together so I wouldn’t keep them with a legend if they’d come with one, but I would at least like it if they showed them for all the dice versus only 2 in their own product images. Fortunately, someone in one of the other reviews put up pics of the legends for all 4 dice, so that’s the problem solved as far as I’m concerned.I was torn about knocking off one star just because there is a bit of a flaw in my red die, in that it clearly has a line of the yellow resin/plastic whatever. It’s not a problem with the inking, the images are all clear, deeply carved, and well inked, no issues there, which is why I ultimately did not take a star off, but it seems some of the yellow product got into the mold for my red die, it’s not a pattern or a swirl, it’s clearly a mistake, and while I don’t really mind… I notice. And I’d feel bad if I bought them to give to a more serious collector, so if that sort of imperfection would bother you or the person you’re buying these for, just be aware it’s a possibility and the quality control is perhaps not the best. Still, if you just think they’re cool and they might be fun to mess with—they are!(Decided to toss a pic on so you can see the yellow bit on the red die—it looks like the diamond on the yellow die isn’t inked well, but that’s actually just the angle and the depth of the lines, head-on the diamond looks fine.)

These are very nice dice, but beware contrast in dimly lit rooms

Minimal, old-school, and traveling DMs will love these: Need a terrain feature? Roll terrain die. Need to randomly assemble a dungeon? Roll one of the dungeon dice and let it define the content or shape of your dungeons, caverns, and catacombs. This could also be used for a kind of solo play. What'd the player find? Roll the loot die. There's one problem: these dice are all darker colors—the yellow's really an orange—and the black print makes for a low-contrast reading experience. That's particularly annoying for me because I have vision issues. But it also means I have learned how to solve this kind of thing. I'm going to scrub them with a toothbrush, repaint the faces with white nail polish, and then wipe them down with nail polish remover to clean up the excess. Old school DM's know this trick—this or white crayon! Wish these dice were painted in white like Bescon's other unique set with weather and the emoji die. (I'll review that separately, but that one is a better yellow.)

Great dice for random adventures

I think these dice do exactly what they were ment to do. I wish the platelet was a bit higher quality, but it hits all the basic information. Great random for creating RPG adventures. Works for Great for solo play too.

Great tools for Solo RPG Play

🎲 Solo RPG Sidekick: Bescon’s Dungeon and Wilderness Terrain Dice are the excellent generation tools for solo RPG play. They’re like having a magic 8-ball for your dungeon crawls.🌿 Green for Go: The green die is your trusty companion for hex crawls, replacing random tables with a roll of fate. You could add in a d6 with 4+ repeating the terrain previously rolled and a 1-3 meaning draw the new thing (to cluster your terrain a bit more).🔴🔵 Quick-Draw Dungeon Design: The red and blue dice are the dynamic duo for instant dungeon layouts, especially the red die. I attached a picture I created solely rolling the red die with a few guided modifications here and there.⚠️ Traps Galore: These dice might set off more traps than a clumsy rogue. Consider rolling some percentile dice in addition to see if your party’s luck holds out.Use Blue sparingly: The blue die is just okay - its great here and there for altars, but you might not want to use every result every time in each room.🎲 Overall: Bescon’s dice set is a great addition to any GM or Solo RPG toolkit. Happy adventuring!

Useful addition to my travel DM kit

Sometimes when my players ask me a question I find myself giving them a boring answer. Or one I catch myself giving a lot. These dice have helped make my job just a little easier. I simply get to think less while also being a thought-provoking fun tool. The treasure and dungeon feature dice are especially helpful in my prepping. I am sure if you play a hex crawl of sorts you could benefit from using the Dungeon and Wilderness terrain dice also.
