Seems like it has a lot of alcohol or maybe I just used too much when making my homemade vanilla ice cream. Recipe called for 2 teaspoons but I admit I used a lot more

So far, so good. I made this purchase after buying several jars (and going quickly thru them) of another brand (i won't post name here because i don't want you to think i'm a troll for that company). I made the leap with this large jar and hefty price tag, but I was pleasantly surprised that I needed less of this brand in my baking. This greatly stretches out the cost and makes it a super efficient purchase. (Note: the label on Heilala equates 1 teaspoon to 1 vanilla bean pod whereas other brands equate 1 TABLEspoon to 1 vanilla bean. I find that I need two teaspoons to match a vanilla bean and to replicate the same taste in my baking.)Overall, I'm pretty happy that this jar is lasting me a while and my customers aren't noticing any difference in taste or texture.END RESULT: quality taste that gives me a better bottom line; however I am only giving 4 stars because I do feel the vanilla taste is not as strong as a Madagascar Bean or paste, as the description suggests.

Delicious!! Makes a fantastic filling for cake.

This is my second purchase of vanilla bean paste. My first purchase was for a different brand which was supposed to be high-quality and was more expensive. It was thin and didn't have as much of the "caviar" (small flecks of actual vanilla) as I expected. Not wanting to give up, I purchased this product and was amazed at the difference! When opening the jar, the smell was sweet but not cloying. The consistency was thick, which meant it wasn't watered down. There are visibly tons of "caviar" in even a 1/4 tsp. I subbed out liquid vanilla for this in my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and I was impressed by the flavor. You could also see the "caviar" dispersed throughout the final product, which added to the appeal and gives baked goods a sense of sophistication. The taste is smooth and balanced- robust but not overwhelming. I will be adding this product to my baking lineup for sure. For those that are worried about spending- just give this product a shot and let it speak for itself! You don't have to use it in every single baked item, but it does give something special when you want to go above and beyond.

Great for coffee

I have purchased this product a few times in the past and it has always been a great addition to all of my baking recipes. For some reason the last jar that I purchased is of poor quality. I bought it in March and have only used it two or three times, but I noticed that the last time I used it it smells like rubbing alcohol. There is no vanilla scent whatsoever. It also gave the cookies that I made a very strange aftertaste which I cannot really attribute to any of the other ingredients. It is being stored in the same dark cool cabinet as the rest of my baking extracts and those are fine, so I'm not sure if I just got a bad batch, but I am well outside of the return window and I'm honestly not sure that I will buy this again.
