A Non-pharmaceutical Remedy for Helping Your Cherished Pet Cope with Stress and Trauma
Over the over the years, I have become a fan of Integrative Health protocols. I believe that truth is found in the balance of perspectives. In this case. I believe both conventional and holistic methods have something to offer. Flower essences have lined the shelves of my Apothecary for many years. I use the "Bach Flower Essence," "Rescue Remedy," not only to help calm my own anxiety when needed but also to help calm and bring peace to my kitties. I was really excited when I discovered "Rescue Remedy for Pets" at a local pet store. I have seen it carried online and in major chains. In the old days, you could only purchase flower essences directly from the supplier or from a health-food store. I am so happy to see natural health remedies become part of mainstream product choices. Before "Rescue Remedy for Pets"came along, I used the regular 'Rescue Remedy" which is preserved with a very tiny amount of grape alcohol: "(approx 27% v/v)" as listed on the bottle. "Rescue Remedy for Pets" does not contain grape alcohol; this pet variety uses water and glycerin. My cat likes the sweet taste of the glycerin. This is a great option for folks who do not want their pet(s) to consume the alcohol. (Over decades I never witnessed an adverse reaction to the alcohol, but it did appear to make my cats, for lack of a better term, a little more "sedated." I now prefer to use the version for pets. However, if you only have the version with alcohol readily available when you need it, you can dilute with water per instructions). I recently rescued a male cat. His name is Apollo, and I love him to the moon and back. I do not know Apollo's entire background, but I do know he was homeless for at least a year and he was just over one-year-old when I adopted him. Apollo survived as a kitten and young boy on his own amidst predators (including humans!), cars, storms and everything else. I know, from experience, that he presented with symptoms of trauma (PTSD) and separation anxiety when I met him. When I sense he needs help, I give him his elixir: A "kitty latte" that consists of milk and "Rescue Remedy for Pets." Since he can tolerate and enjoy milk (make SURE your pet is okay with cows milk), I combine a few drops of "Rescue Remedy for Pets" with about a milkcap-full of organic milk into a little bowl and offer it to him. He laps it up immediately and soon after he drifts off into a peaceful sleep. He may also calmly meander or station himself peacefully by a sunny window. All appears right with the world as his eyes slowly and lovingly blink with contentment. I also used to give i"Rescue Remedy" to my Calico who lived to be 22 years of age. My vet wanted to treat her with an antidepressant for fear-based aggression. I gently declines the vet's suggestion to medicate her, and "Rescue Remedy "treated my calico perfectly. (By the way, if your cat bolts as soon as he or she sees your portable kitty crate,I suggest giving your pet a dose of "Rescue Remedy for Pets" BEFORE you prepare the crate and your pet to go to the vet! Sometimes I like to prepare Apollo a latte before I have to leave home, too - especially if he is very nervous. I use organic milk; he especially enjoys brands that contain fish oils (EFAs: Essential Fatty Acids) which are great for his coat, skin and brain among other great health benefits.) Some brands use sardine and/or tilapia oils. This combination of organic milk with EFA's mixed with a few drops of "Rescue Remedy for Pets" creates, what I like to call, Apollo's "Sushi Latte!" it is a perfect remedy To help alleviate Apollos Stress and Anxiety. (Milk especially for cats is available for purchase, but I have no experience with using it.) Sometimes we take our "Rescue Remedy" together so we are both calm. it helps to remember that our pets often absorb our behavior and can even be our own barometers - they measure and reflect our own emotional status at any given time.

Great product
I use this with both my cats, both rescued at the same time, both 13 years. They used to be great friends, sleeping together, grooming each other, and playing. One has gotten hissy with the other, and this has taken the edge of their existence together in my home. It goes in their water, and I put it in their "dinner" treat daily. It really does work.

Been using for years. Really helps calm our dog and cat.
I have a former street dog who gets very anxious at night. I put this on her treats and in her dinner to help calm her down. It really works. I just wish they would come out with a treat version that already has it in it. Seems like a no brainer but I wrote to the company that makes it and suggested it and they said they have no plans to do that. Bummer. But it was nice of them to reply.

the trade off wasn't worth it- I hated seeing him uncomfortable with an upset stomach
I started by using the human version for my Rott/German Shepherd/Lab mix. I was told to purchase this stuff through the rescue that I adopted him from, however I didn't do my due diligence and read the reviews or questions before purchasing. It helped with his nerves and separation anxiety tremendously, but it made him sick. So for me, the trade off wasn't worth it- I hated seeing him uncomfortable with an upset stomach. I then researched and found the pet version, which I immediately purchased. Max loves it! It doesn't seem to have as strong as a taste as the human version, so I can easily put it on a treat without him noticing (before there was always quite a bit on convincing). I will mix about 3 to 4 drops into his water bowl in the morning on days that I am going to be leaving him alone and it calms him down almost instantly. I have also started adding these drops to soft treats in more urgent or time sensitive situations (unplanned errand, thunderstorm, vet visits, etc.) Even the workers at his doggy day care have noticed that he is much more mellow and, although he has always gotten along with other dogs, is even more friendly and playful. I don't think I will ever be without this product from now on!

Does work mostly
My 2 year old indoor-only male ginger cat has started to urinate (not Spray) on counters, floors, papers etc for no reason. We have more than enough cat boxes which are cleaned every day and he has no medical issues per our vet. I have been giving him 4-6 drops of Rescue Remedy morning and night mixed into a cooked shrimp which he gobbles down. It seems to help somewhat, he seems more laid back although he still does pee on things every couple/three days. I'm going to keep using it morning and night and hope I can break the inappropriate urination before the house is ruined. I don't want to give him prescription meds, ie tranquilizers although it may come to that if I cannot break this habit.

Rescue Remedy Rescued my dog!
I have a Golden Retriever who is afraid of his own shadow and when it comes to thunderstorms so far nothing has settled this poor guy down even hours after the storms passes. A friend recommended Rescue Remedy and thought it was worth a try. I hate the medication my vet give me and this is all natural. So with fingers crossed and receiving it none to soon we tried it Rescue Remedy for the first time one day after receiving it. Wow, what a difference. Gabe with is thundershirt on and 4 drops of Rescue Remedy was calm and steady. My arm was not scratched and bruised as usual from holding a wildly scarred dog. Two days later we experienced a series of thunderstorms that lasted what felt like the entire day. It did take two doses through the day, but Rescue Remedy did the job and Gabe was relaxed and survived that day without any problem. I now have a backup bottle...just in case.
