Q: Connecting to ipad pro, does it take volume control from ipad? apple usb-c adapter does. so that it can be connected to amp directly.

My iPadPro is first generation (if that makes a difference) but the iPadOS is the most recent. The Apple Music volume slider is disabled when I plug into the Modi 3+ so I adjust volume with the receiver controls.

Q: Can i connect my android smart phone to the modi dac or do i need an adapter and what kind of adapter do i need?

It will drain the battery on your phone, and you will need a micro to micro usb adapter.
