White Plaque
This is a very good book! I wish I could give it 8 stars. The story from the start captivated me and held me until the wee hours of the morning! Characters are well defined and really fit into story. I wholeheartedly recommend this book. I never wanted to put the book down. Grab it and curl up in your quiet favorite place and give it a read. You won't be sorry!!

An enjoyable read with multiple mysteries
This book was fun to read and as you concluded what you thought was the point, then you would find a new mystery unfolding. Once again the main distraction was the poor language increasingly used as the stakes grew higher. To be expected you say? Hindrance, I say.

Not My Usual Genre...
Though I am not typically a fan of military thrillers, I actually first saw the sequel to this book and it sounded interesting (marine science, the Arctic), so I thought that I would get the first book and the second! This first book in the series is engaging, but not always smoothly written or particularly consistent with the first-person perspective. But that aside, the details are handled well and I am curious about the plot as I continue to read. This is definitely a "dad" book - there are only a few female characters and at least they seem to be treated as real characters and not the big-breasted cliches that this genre seems to genre. The setting is especially well-realized and really adds some authenticity to the story. The main reason that I avoid military thrillers like these though is because it seems political opinions always creep in - and frankly, I hear enough about politics that I don't need it to invade my fictional reading! And while this hasn't spoiled this book for me, I just wish that it wasn't there... Otherwise I am enjoying it - there's plenty of action, suspense and a plot that is flavored possibilities thing. It's fast-paced and definitely an entertaining read. I just wish that the author had skipped the politics... this one also didn't set up the sequel the way that I expected it to. It really does feel more like a standalone novel.

Rescue in the Frozen North
Able presents us with a suspenseful novel appropriate to current international tension. A leading-edge U.S. nuclear submarine has caught fire on the Arctic Ocean shoreline and is vulnerable to seizure by Russian or Chinese naval vessels. If that should happen, vital U.S. military secrets would fall into the hands of our adversaries. The lead character, Marine Colonel Joe Rush, commandeers the sole U.S. icebreaker vessel to secure the sub and rescue its crew. That action interrupts a major scientific project in which the vessel was engaged. The race to the sub becomes a battle among the power brokers on the ice breaker, but Rush succeeds in barely beating out the Chinese, reaching the sub first. A standoff verses the Chinese commander of their latest nuclear sub edges toward a showdown that is resolved when the Chinese switch to a diplomatic maneuver. All of the action is played out against a background of The White Plague, the suspected return aboard the U.S. sub of the plague that had decimated the world population in the middle ages. The recovery of frozen corpses by the sub is the attributed cause of the disease. Rush now has to save the ship and its occupants from total destruction by the U.S. government in order to save humankind from the plague. The story is somewhat melodramatic and improbable, but keeps the reader involved.D.K. Elliott; dkelliottfl.com

You don’t know the end until the end!
An excellent story with a constantly moving plot and fully conceivable circumstances stretching factors from World War 1 through the age of atomic submarine technology! You may well be as surprised at the end as I was — and pleased with the overall ethical implications involved!

Great read. Exciting. And interesting. Write another. Hated it to end. Hope that governments aren't that crazy to do something this for real

This book was really fast paced and hugely entertaining. I really liked the setting as well as the outcome. I wondered who edited it. I noticed he used in a sentence "he drug him away from........" that's even worse than "ain't, " isn't it?Syllabuss

Action packed
A very quick read ... Two days (I had to have some sleep). Great action story, scary premise, solid characters and an all too likely world of greed & corruption. Have pre ordered Sequel out on Aug/14. Best liked the descriptions of the Artic.
