Good tools for network line problem
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Simple and effective tool to trace network lines (RJ45) and phone lines (RJ11). Bought this toolkit to help my friend setup his servers and network for his new business. Basically he hired some contractor to run ethernet lines from a server rooms to multiple locations and the contractor did not label the end points and there was over 50 lines. With this tool, i was able to help him figure out which end goes to which end in about an hour. It's very simple to use, i did a demo video to show you how it workin a nutshell. The tools has more features too, which i didn't need. Everything comes in a nice case, easy to carry around.

Works Well - Easy to Use - Convenient Storage Case
I bought this Merterk cable tester / wire tester set to help me test and sort out some of the RJ45 cables that are routed throughout my house . I have to admit I really didn't quite understand how to use it when it at first. The manual was a little confusing to me, so I decided just to play around with it, and was able to master usage in a short time. With the tester kit I am able to test whether individual wires in RJ45/RJ11 cables are installed correctly in the connectors. I can also use the emitter and receiver to track and locate cables even on long runs.Using the test cable with the alligator clips I can clip to bare wires and use the receiver to track and locate individual electrical wires.I can also use the receiver to detect for the presence of AC voltage. And, I'm fairly impressed with how well the non-contact AC voltage detection works. I already have several non-contact AC voltage detectors, but none are as sensitive as this one. The Mertek is easily able to detect live AC voltage at electrical outlets, power cords, and even many electrical devices. The wire tracker receiver and emitter both have backlit buttons and the receiver has a built-in LED light that helps when working in areas without good lighting. The receiver also has a volume control wheel and can be used with the provided earbuds. And finally, the two testers, test cable, earbuds, and manual all fit nicely back into the zippered canvas storage case. Overall I am happy with this this cable tester / wire tracker set.

Everything I asked for and more.
I was needing a good cable test tool for a small wiring job and settled on this unit. Not only does it have a cable test ability for RJ45 and RJ11 cables it also is a good cable tracer system. The tracer function is comparable with my $100 unit. The batteries that came with it lasted through out the entire job under almost constant use and are still going. The case that came with it is made of a light weight material that wont last under heavy work but the reality is that I will be keeping it with my other test tools in my larger kit so that wont be a problem.Overall I am quite pleased with the unit.Pros: Easy to use, long battery life, good price point for 2 tools in one.Cons: Storage case is not the best quality.

OK, but Variable Control is Mis-represented
The variable control on the unit is referred to as something like a volume control in the limited documentation. However, it is not a volume control; it is a sensitivity control. This [probably a translation error] caused me to lose an hour of diagnosis until I figured out what was going on.

Highly recommended and at a great price!
This cable tester is by far the best value for the money. I used it to trace 110 volt cable in the walls of my home. (with the circuit breaker off of course!). This cable tester read though the sheet-rock with inches to spare. I only needed to get the tester near the cable or touch the tip to the sheet-rock to have it put of a loud clear signal. Its adjustable too. I previously had another, much more expensive tester from a very popular instrument company. The Wire Tracker is far superior and much less expensive. Simple easy to use and professional looking. It worked beyond expectation. Highly recommended.

I would love to give this tester 5 stars, but the "digital" toner portion needs improvement..
I would love to give this tester 5 stars, but the "digital" toner portion needs to be more refined so you can easily isolate your wiring more clearly from others on the same wiring panel. I have used it for 66/110 block wiring, in data/Telco toning, but had some difficulty finding the strongest tone signal/noise from several other cables on the same block panel. The Fluke Intellitone toner & wand is still substantially more defined in this regard, easier to narrow down that one correct cable. The overall features of this tool is very handy and accurate so far.

Didn't work for me
I got this mostly for its wire tracker capabilities. I tried it on a coax cable and after a few feet, this thing was having difficulty finding it. Since I do that a lot for work, I returned it

Just doesn't work
Granted, this is cheap device, so I didn't expect much but I expected it to work. Shoddy cheap plastic, something rattles inside, battery compartment cover needs small screw driver to put the batteries in. Very much underwhelmed but what I saw. To top this this off, unit just switches off if any button is pressed on the receiver. I feel that even if it worked properly it will likely to fall apart after several uses. Total waste of time and money. Stay away!
