Strong Sequel
Ralph Breaks the Internet is a strong sequel to Wreck-it-Ralph, even if it doesn't exceed expectations. I would rate Wreck-it Ralph higher, but this is still a solid effort.Ralph and Venelope are trying to save her game. To do that they need to recover her broken steering wheel before the arcade throws the video arcade game away. I loved the inclusion of more characters - lots of fun moments with princesses, superheroes, and the like. The adventure tale is good, but the strength of this movie is the character interactions and subtle nods to all the various properties brought together in one place. Fantastic animation, and I love the continuation of Ralph's story. Character development was lacking, though, and the overall message a bit heavy-handed.

Family Fun
More than just an adventure. Explores attachment issues of relationships, acceptance, love, letting go and communication which are real lessons to learn. Deep and heartfelt. The adventure, the art of the internet world, memes, characters...etc. where 10/10 as well!

I wish the second half were better
Spoilers are in this review so please skip this if you haven't seen it.In the first movie Ralph did everything to save Vanellope: Smashed her car to stop her from risking her life, and then he gave the ultimate sacrifice... he gave his life to save hers. Yes, she ultimately saved him before boiling to death in diet cola mountain, but he still made the decision to die for her. It said a lot about his character, which is one of the reasons this movie is so incredibly hard to enjoy for me. Not to mention I loved the nostalgic arcade vibe of movie 1.The first half of Wreck it Ralph 2 is pretty decent. They build on the first movie a bit and catch everyone up (a little) with some of the old characters. Then, they turn the movie into something else. Kids get to find out about the dark web, spam bots, viral videos... the movie even breaks the 4th wall at one point to include some new wave feminist view point of "toxic masculinity" in a strange scene with numerous Disney Princesses. Don't get me wrong, there's a cuteness to it all but there's also a new and bizarre undertone in this movie that went stale fast for me. Then Vanellope decides that she'd rather spend her life in a trashy Twisted Metal like game but she doesn't want to tell Ralph about it for some reason. In the meantime, while she risks her life in Death Race, Ralph is out working his tail off trying to save HER game by making a bunch of crappy internet videos. So Ralph, her hero, finds out that she wants to stay in the death race game and decides to put a freaking virus in Vanellope's new game? Uhh.. The guy gives his life to save hers yet he puts a virus in her game? The same guy who fought off the psi bug invasion in Wreck it Ralph 1? Who was willing to die for her? This part of the script really didn't make sense to me. Ralph actually became a bad guy here. And Vanellope, not wanting to tell Ralph that she didn't want to be in Sugar Rush anymore, actually desired to be in the creepy gross game? There were too many weird factors like this in this movie. It really felt like a completely different movie by the end of it.And lastly, the ending of this movie was themed heavily around letting kids grow up and become who they want to be. Yes, Ralph is suddenly a parent and not her Hero anymore. A needy parent who won't let go and let his little brat grow up and hang out with thugs and murderers in a twisted violent racing game.Overall, I felt like this movie took a lot of the goodness from the first movie and tried to turn it into something it wasn't. They should have built more off of what they had already established in the first movie, in my opinion. Wreck it Ralph 2 isn't bad but the second half lacks the greatness of Wreck it Ralph. I wanted the movie to end long before it did and I did not find the joy I had for the first movie in this one. Maybe if they spent less time in the internet. Maybe if the Death Race game wasn't so twisted and demented. Maybe if they had focused more on old characters and the nostalgic arcade theme that the first movie weighed so heavily on. Maybe if they left the feminist and new wave opinions out. Maybe if they didn't turn Ralph in to an actual bad guy man-child. So many maybes. I guess it is what it is.I suppose the redeeming factor for this movie is that my Daughter enjoys it. She's almost 2 and have only let her watch it a couple of times because it has a few weird parts to it. She definitely likes the first half a LOT more than the second, but still watches the whole movie.
