Instant Read 8" Stem Thermometer

I had an older style thermometer like this, but it wasn't nearly as nice or easy to use. The only good thing it had going for it was that it had, on the sleeve, printing for all the various meat types and temperatures to reach. It had a very awkward, hard to slide on/off switch, and was quite short for the stem, necessitating some "ouchie" moments when using it in an oven.I like this one much better. It's much easier to turn on and off, reads a little quicker, but more importantly, has a longer stem for less incidents in the hot oven. It penetrates easily, reads accurately compared to my other meat thermometers, and cleans up nicely.All told, for the price it's a steal.

this is a great unit. i use for making maple syrup and the programmable temperature alarm is a great feature. for the price it has a quick read time, and everyone who makes syrup or candy knows how important that is. in the past i had issues with other digital thermometers breaking or giving false readings due to the steam and water vapor when boiling but, not with this unit. the water proof casing works like a champ. the first time i had used the thermometer it had fallen into the batch of boiling (almost) maple syrup, an act that would surly destroy most other thermometers. i had pulled it out and rinsed it off with no negative effects. the reason for a 4 star rating and not a 5 is that the alarm sound is a bit hard to hear if you have a busy and noisy work area and that the unit dose not come with a stem clip or stand.

Junk right out of the box. Does not work. Need to pull the thing apart with 5 screws etc. and try to find replacement batteries. Hopefull it will work. Besides that it's bulky and too long for normal kitch use.

Works fine once I figured it out. But using for first time on Thanksgiving was a little stressful. Not super user friendly. And what's with the clip??? It's as useless as the sheath. They both just fall off. I guess The thermometer works fine though because my turkey was cooked to perfection.

Shows in search results as a candy thermometer, the range in temp says otherwise.

nice long probe, keeps your hands away from hot coals. big display is easy to read. simple functions, not a bunch of crap that requires reading instructions. flat shape doesnt roll away.

Nice thermometer. It displays quickly and seems to be very accurate. I use it to temp the mash when I'm making beer; the extra long probe makes it easy to take a reading right in the middle.

It works, it was tricky at first to figure out how to put the thermometer in the case but after a few tries, it was finfe.
