Brave New Blues Guitar Book/Online Video Paperback – May 1, 2018

Greg Koch is a giant of the guitar world…literally. And I’m talking about hands. They’re huge. But, also he’s a great teacher. And he’s entertaining.The book itself is fairly straight forward and what you’d expect. The content and concepts behind the book are great. But what really sets this apart is the nearly three hours of video instruction explaining in detail how to play every example.It’s just a great product. And if Hal Leonard makes more “books” in this format I’ll keep buying them.

I love the format, content and humor in this book. Greg knows how to keep your attention. This is exactly what I am looking for to get back into playing guitar.The only complaint I have is that the Hal Leonard codes do not work for the online audio content. I purchased three of Greg's books "Brave New Blues Guitar", "Guitar Clues" and "Standard Tuning Slide Guitar" and none of the codes work on Hal Leonard's website. 7/10/18 Edit: Contacted Hal Leonard and found out they were having a technical issue with their server. Now I have access to the online content, and would like to change my rating from 5 to 10 stars.

This is the way all guitar books should be !!All the licks are done in videos that are online . So you can see & hear how they are suppose to sound . Plus you can’t go wrong with Greg teaching . I like that the Derek slide licks are in standard too . No tuning to open E for those .Bottom line , great book !! Buy it now !!

Greg Koch is an amazing player, great teacher and (IMO) one of the funniest humans that is also a blues rock shred warlord of the night. Here he breaks down stylistic subtleties of the greats. Page, Beck, Clapton, SRV, plus some underrated giants, Earl Hooker, and Cornell Dupree...he teaches 5 licks from each artist, and then mashes a select pair into a delicious sonic stew -if you will---now true. not everyone finds Greg as amusing and entertaining as I--BUT--the content alone is 5 stars all the way. Download the videos from the HL website and start learning these awesome licks and solos!

Greg is always entertaining and an incredible player. It’s really helpful to have the videos to watch him play the riffs. He chose a great selection of artists to study and I always learn something from him even though I’ve played and taught for over 40 years.

Greg Koch is in fine form here. The Johnny Winter lesson is my favorite.

Excellent book covers styles of the usual players but then mixes them up in twos ( Johnny and Jimmy, Eric and Freddie etc). Great video too. My only complaint is Hal Leonard's player not allowing you to slow down or at least loop a section. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have audio for the examples available. Are you reading this Greg? I know where you live.

Man, there is some savagery in this tome. Greg's personality is a welcome bonus, and I can forgive the 90s-quality video because of the sheer quality of the content. Bravo!

Conosco Greg Koch ormai da anni come funambolico chitarrista rock-blues (tra l'altro simpaticissimo) ma non conoscevo questo suo lavoro didattico.. secondo me la cosa più importante da rimarcare è che in questo lavoro non si acquista solo un testo scritto ma soprattutto si acquistano 3 ore e mezza di video scaricabili da Hal Leonard dove Greg fornisce esempi pratici di come suonare nello stile dei più grandi chitarristi Rock Blues (Albert Collins, BB King, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hendrix, Jeff beck, Billy Gibbons etc..) e quindi a mio avviso risulta essere un modo molto pratico di ampliare il proprio vocabolario di frasi e conoscenze.. Non aspettatevi chissà quanti commenti scritti nel testo (di fatto sono riportati solo gli spartiti di ogni lick etc..) mentre il grosso del lavoro è contenuto nei video.. Per me è un lavoro da 5 stelle in quanto per il rapporto qualità-prezzo prezzo è un supporto molto utile.

If you like Koch, you’ll love this. Hardcore Koch from start to finish. Koch’s slippery licks are legendary and this book is a great starting point for learning how to play with Koch’s inimitable style. If you want to get a grip on hard Koch licks, this is the book to get. Long live Koch.
