D-Link Ethernet Switch, 8 Port Gigabit Unmanaged Metal Fanless Desktop or Wall Mount Design (DGS-108), Black

I have been streaming audio for maybe 8-9 years, initially with a SqueezeBox Touch, and most recently with a Node N130. The sound quality was at times very good, but never spectacular, like I got through a very expensive CD player. Upgrading the DAC to a Gustard with added external clocks and D2D converters still failed to bridge the gap.After much prompting, I was encouraged to buy an entry level network switch to go between the router and the Node. Almost immediately I knew I was one step closer to the elusive sound quality we always chase, but never seem to get. Everything just sounded better....imaging, bass, clarity-everything!I happened to have an old model entry level iFi 5V supply from my Squeezebox days lying around. So I replaced the very inexpensive wall-wart power supply that came with the switch. And again was taken another step closer to where I wanted to be. This encouraged me to move up the iFi line and to get a $100 PowerX for the switch. This proved to be the largest audio upgrade I have done in a long long time. I refrained from the $300 iFi Elite because at that price I probably would spend a bit more and get the Gustard N18 Pro switch-which probably will be my next step.So if you want to get your feet wet into the world of adding switches to audio/video streamers, in hopes of inexpensive upgrades this DLink switch (with even an entry level iFi supply) is a GREAT place to start.

So, after 10 years of using the D-Link Ethernet Switch, it finally gave up. I have been using this exact model to switch between 2 computers that use the same monitor. I use 2 computers and switch between them multiple times a day, daily for 10 YEARS. I would say this item is a winner. The only difference between the old and new is the new one is slightly smaller. Also, I think it cost more 10 years ago.

Was having periodic problems with nearly complete loss of loss of WiFi signal on my mesh WiFi6 system, with 60 devices including multiple Sonos speakers on Sonosnet, and eventually found a suggestion that a Ethernet switch with QOS and flow control might resolve the problem. And it did! - have had no recurrence since swapping in this switch between the mother mesh node and a hard wired speaker. Should have tried this weeks ago. Now, speakers, TV, and cameras are coexisting with Macs, iPhones and iPads….

This works well, but can cause issues with addressing on certain things. I had to put my modem in bridge mode (disables wifi within the modem) to use an A/C wireless router. Since I have the Comcast triple play, they required me to purchase a modem that is compatible for the phone service even though I don't use it. There are only 2 choices, both of which are junk for wifi (mine is only N) so I needed this to run other things without the internal modem wifi. My nvr works fine off of it, but only at 100 meg per second. My home computer will work fine full speed (I have 150mbps) off of this, but I can't directly access my nvr from computer, but live view does work. Now, another issue I have encountered is both my magic jacks won't work from the outlet ports from this, I am guessing that it has to see an address. I had to connect them to my router in order for them to work. A nightmare of cables, connection woes, but this did help to get things working far better than before. Web addressing is a horrible mess of issues that are extremely hard to solve, and it's still not 100% the way it should be, but workable. Comcast wants to charge me 10.00 a month lease for their modem, forget that waste of money, but the lack of options for the phone service on the availability of purchase options (only 2 to chose from, and Arris brand) really stinks. If this modem ever fails, they will provision whatever modem I buy if they want to keep me as a customer, even if it don't have phone access.

This is a review of the DGS-105 switch. I'm happy with this switch and the price, performance and features. This switch is connected to my router's built-in switch on port 5 of the DGS-105. On port 1 I have my office PC and on port 2 I have connected my NAS storage server. I was concerned primarily when buying a switch that it be able to support a fast switch fabric so I can do multiple things simultaneously with no bottlenecks. I have tested the DGS-105 and I am able to get full throughput to my NAS of 115 MB/s read and write while my PC is simultaneously watching iTunes 4K streaming or Twitch. My NAS works with Dynamic DNS so I can access my files while on travel or out of the house and the switch works fine for this purpose and I tested to make sure this works. Works on the DGS-105. I used some adhesive foam tape to tape this to a shelf in my office because the cables coming out of the front can make it tweak or move on the shelf. I was mostly concerned with concurrent transfers when buying this and it works great on my home network with a really easy installation and good performance. If you're looking for a good switch for a small area of your home or office I would suggest the DGS-105 because it can handle lots of traffic with no seeming throughput issues. I'm happy with this purchase, the quality and the price. Hope this review helps you out. If you're wondering I'm using the Synology DiskStation DS918+ and this switch can support most of the features I use on the NAS. Works with DS file on Android and streaming to my AppleTV over Samba with no issues.

I needed a switch for my home office. I have an older version of this in my bedroom. Be sure to read the instructions. The lan cable goes in the first connector. You need a power outlet available. I will probably move my Wi-Fi router from the bedroom to the office now that I have extra connections. This switch worked right out of the box.
