I love this children's book!!!
I read this to my two Bengal cats when I opened the box this book arrived at my front door in. I had the most fun reading it to them and I realized it was not a book written about anything to do with the South. It is a very sweet book with a happy ending.

A Classic favorite
I have fond memories of my Mama reading this book to me as a child. I loved the story and its illustrations. I am so happy to have it now in my possession. I wish Mama was still here to see it on my shelf!

One of my childhood favorites !
I know there is a lot of negative attitudes out there in the world about books like this one. As a child I thought how smart this little boy was to outsmart not one but FOUR tigers!!!! I thought how proud his loving parents must be. Such a positive family story!! A whole family unit not broken by divorce like mine was. I also remember a family restaurant themed after this book. It was called Sambo s and they served the BEST buttery pancakes, 😋 Yummy 😋!!!I. The restaurant was forced to change their name because of the racial references in the story. Some people were offended by the story. Instead of looking at it in a positive light they chose negativity instead. So sad to tarnish a beautiful child's story with a racist perspective.

Interesting Book (Hardcover Review)
The hard cover version of this book is of okay quality. The outside of the cover is made to look worn & dirty. The inside pages are very thin, so text & pictures bleed through, but not enough to interfere with enjoying the book. There is no wording on the spine, so if you have a lot of books in your home library, it might be hard to find.Potential Spoilers: The story is about a boy who gives all his belonging to tigers so he doesn’t get eaten. The greed & pride of the tigers causes them to fight and they fight so hard that they become butter. In the end, the boy’s mother makes pancakes and the family (mother, father, & son) has a feast.

How to deal with bullies
When I was little we read the book as a cute story set in African lore. Today I have reread the story and realized the depth of meaning this simple African tale has for us all. We know there are bullies all around us and how we deal with them will make the difference from being down trodding and without Or out witting the enemy and have more than enough. That was one very smart little boy and he was rewarded when he came home. There are a lot of what was called "old wives tales" in my younger days that hold a lot of advise if you just take the time to look.

Loved this book!
I have loved this book since I was a child. I am a white person and as a child I never saw this book as being demeaning to black people or people of color. While I thought that these people were Indian it seemed to me a story about some mean tigers that took things that were not there's and they paid a price in the end turning to butter and then the family had them on pancakes. A just desert! It is too bad that now this book is viewed as a racial slur to black people. It was an innocent story of the time and bad people have used the words as weapons of hate. If I could change the world to remove the hate that has caused this book to be banned I would. You should get this book for your child and use it for good please. The author never saw the unintended purpose that those with hate in there heart would use it for. Maybe even as they get older use it as a time to teach them about how wrong it is to hate others for the color of there skin. We need to judge others by the content of there character.

No illustrations
There aren't any pictures! This was one of my favorite books when I was young. I was very disappointed not to find the illustrations.

A charming tale
The same lovely story I loved growing up. I still don’t understand why they make Sambo black instead of Indian, as he originally was…

Somewhat interesting story
This book had quite a few errors in it as if it had been translated into another language then translated back into English from that. As to the story I'm not sure why tigers are in Africa but other stories have that too. The most interesting bit is that the tigers turn into butter.

lovely story book.
I bought this, as I remembered reading it as a child, in the 1940s. I enjoyed it as much the second time around, and it was a lovely memory of my childhood.
