Seymour 41548 AX-DB3 3.5 lb. Michigan Double Bit Axe with 36" Hickory Handle

I purchased this axe for the price point. Out of the box it was standard factory sharp, not dull but not sharp. I used the axe, as it was without sharpening the blade, to split some firewood and it preformed great. The handle fits the head nicely and I like the overall length of the handle. The only recommendation I would make is to not varnish the handle and leave the stickers off of the handle. I prefer to preserve my handles with raw linseed oil. Overall good axe for the price. It will be used every time I split wood.

Seems ok. Comes unsharpened and unusable until sharpened. Otherwise seems fine and very old school

It is so sharp that it was shipped with rubber bumpers on the cutting edges. I'm sure I will be sharpening it soon, but I was surprised at how sharp it was at the time of my purchase.

Bought this axe as a gift. Immediately after receiving I was not happy with the quality. It felt cheap. The handle was very rough. If you didn't wear gloves (which you likely would anyway but if you didn't) you would quite possibly get a splinter. The axe head itself was also very roughly sharpened and still not very sharp at all. If I had more time before needing a gift for the person I was giving it to, I would have returned it. After he received it, I bought some firewood so he could use it. He sharpened it and went to work on the wood. Not terribly difficult wood to chop. It was already chopped and bundled from the grocery store so it really didn't even need chopped but I made sure I got a couple of pieces big enough to chop. Anyway, about 3 chops in the handle broke in half. Luckily no one was hurt but definitely a safety concern. I wanted to return it again at that point but he said he would just get a new handle. Whatever works for him and whoever else I guess but in my opinion, this axe is junk!

Arrived well ahead of schedule, well packed wrapped in bubble wrap within a large oversized box. The handle was a little substandard but the price was reasonable.
