85L1 AC 0-50A Rectangle Analog Panel Ammeter Gauge

The meter is listed as an 85l1 Ac 0-50a Rectangle Analog Panel Ammeter Gauge. I was looking for a meter to measure AC amp's meaning Alternating Current... The AC in the description is miss leading and when I ordered this item, there was no diagram showing the hook up of a DC (Direct Current) application using the shunt resistor.DC and AC amp meters are different. I've used an AC amp meter that you loop around the incoming load wire in the AC panel or loop a single circuit in a panel to get only a reading on that particular circuit. I bought this amp meter and made a loop wire to go around the main feed but got no reading. Typically an AC amp meter loops the load wire to read amps on the load. Since I got no instructions and did not want to burn up the meter I sent it back. It's just my opinion if a company sells a product like this they should send some sort of instructions.Item returned because how it was listed as a AC amp meter meaning it measures Alternating Current Amps and I don't believe it will work with a 120/240 electrical system.

I have purchased two of these units. I am pleased that all of the mounting fixtures were included. Circuit that I have prepared will fit well with these two units. They appear robust and should stand a fairly good jarring without causing any problems depending on how they are mounted, and are made for easy monitoring. Thanks

I used to make sure I was not overloading my generator which has no gauge. I got on for each phase and then monitor each as I load with frig , furnace blower motor, lighting , tv/radio.

Nothing wrong with it, just didn't read the whole page..needs a transformer to work in the application I need it for.

Not worth the money !!! Worked for 5 min then erratic readings

I ordered this meter and was happy to see that it qualified for Amazon Prime two day free shipping. I should have read the description more closely which clearly stated that it needs an external shunt which is also available  Amico 50A 75mV DC Current Measure Divider Shunt for AMP Meter  but not Amazon Prime qualified. With the shunt which finally arrived (not too long to arrive given that apparently it was shipped from Hong Kong) the meter works OK and is reasonably accurate compared to other ammeters I have (within about 5%). Unfortunately the shunt is about twice the size of the meter so don't expect to get a compact installation.
