The premise of Awakening, by Celebration Church Lead Pastor and founder, Stovall Weems, is not settle for normal Christianity but to have it be passionate, which would become the new normal. Awakening is a book about the spiritual discipline of fasting and how through this discipline we can leave behind our normal, ho-hum faith and be passionate Christ-followers. This book was one of the best books I have ever read. It helped me so much to understand about fasting and why we should do it. Our church is doing a 21 day fast right now. This is a book for people who really want to get close to God. Stovall Weems really knows what he is talking about. There are several testimonies in the book about people who have done the fast. Some of them made me cry just to see how God can touch peoples lives who are really hungry for Him. Some of the people have had some really messed up lives. I just bought another Awakening book for a 23 year old young man in our church who wants to get closer to God. Buy it! You won't regret it!Beverly from Texas

For those really seeking answers for why we need to fast in this day ... Great answers are found in this book. No more guessing why the New Testament believer needs to fast or who will benefit from it! Clearly stating the purpose for a fast and who should consider this incredible life changing "exercise" of faith. The pressure is off "performance" and on to a continuation of a transforming power of having a personal relationship with the Savior. For the person who for health or other reasons feel they can't fast ... There are a number of great alternatives to the "normal" food free fast.

I can honestly say this is the first time I have sat down and been committed to reading a "religious" book and I am amazed at how motivating it is. Stovall Weems really allows you to see another side of God, a real and authentic side that many of us did not see in the churches we grew up in. He took away the intimidation factor for me, letting me see just how meaningful a relationship with God can really be. It helped me be motivated to continue throughout my fast, noting and reassuring me when the fasting felt too difficult.A great book that can be read yearly. The message is powerful and will always stay the same. Even as Christians, we need reminders and this book will do just that- powerfully!

I was watching one of Pastor Weems' sermons online when he mentioned his book. I immediately ordered the book and started my first ever fast!! Since this was my first fast, I only did it for 2 weeks (surprised I lasted that long). The first week I was hungry all the time; the second week was a lot easier. When I lived in Jacksonville, I attended his church--Celebration. The book was easy to read and follow and offered lots of encouragement. Pastor Weems is--as another reviewer wrote--the real deal. I plan to fast regularly now. Every church should try this fast yearly as Celebration does.

I love this book! It will awaken your spirit to the presence of God in your life. You can follow any kind of fast that you feel God leads you to follow. I am going to do it for the third time this coming January.I did develop a problem with the Kindle addition being able to take me to the right page since the plan takes you to different areas of the book each day.
