The Two Sides Of John
What a surprising film! I had recently seen Cillian Murphy in another film, and was pleasantly surprised to find him here, double/duo in this film. What an exceptional piece of acting. Murphy plays John, a meek and mild bank teller by day and, Emma his other self, by early day.We meet Emma as she is br8ng8ng in the wash from the clothesline , she makes a nice breakfast, lunch in a bag and dinner she puts in the fridge. Soon, we see John in his suit eat8n* this breakfast, taking his lunch, and retrieving his candy bars from the step. Off he goes to work on his bicycle. This is a daily event. He seems to be the workhorse of the bank, and he completes the work without complaint. And, then, one day, an event takes plac3v5gat changes his world. And, too, someone comes to his home. Will the mystery unravel? What exactly is the mystery? Is this film a thriller or is it the story of a man and his opposite self?Recommended. prisrob 06-24-18

Hmmmm, interesting!
Interesting vision and concept. Mr. Murphey did a great job and actually was a lovely woman until the eyebrow cutting. What a warped person after so much abuse, mostly unmentioned. Obviously this person had a breakdown playing two people in one body. Not an entertaining movie but a journey of madness for sure. This movie was quirky, dark at times. Fascinating at others. Just watch and if nothing else it was worth it to me to see an actors range of emotion and technique. He deserved an Oscar for this part in my opinion. Beware the ending just stops but one can imagine what happens next. Hopefully that girl did get where she needed to go and make a good life for her son. By the way, I think the cop figured the truth out of suspected what was going on. I recommend. One star left off because the producer, Director and writer left the viewer hanging!

I would give this movie a million stars if that was available. SPOILER ALLERT! Anyone reading my review and are not familiar with this movie I bet of you to please do not watch the trailer. I did watch the trailer and I am very sorry I did. It did influence my decision to buy it. I knew I had to own it. This movie completely went under the radar for a lot of people. A friend told me about it. I could not wait to call him to rave about the movie. I told another friend. She saw and could not wait to call me to rave about it. SPOILER ALLERT! PLEASE, PLEASE do not research this movie before watching it. Go on blind faith and my review. The friend I told I begged her not to see the trailer. After she saw the movie she and I decided to look up the lead actor and was floored to learn who he is. This actor should have gotten an Golden Globe, Oscar and every other film awards. Susan Sarandon is in the film and that is all I can and will say. How the Academy of Films and Motion Pictures and the Hollywood foreign Press Association let this slip through the cracks is a travesty. A real must see film. When you do your will telling your friends, but please make sure you inform then of that which would be a SPOILER as I have done so here.

A brother and sister are both victims of a terrible mother
I thought this movie was very interesting and worth while. Cillian Murphy is one of my favorite actors and he did a super job in this film. The supporting cast did a fine job as well. It was great to see Susan Sarandon in an understated role. The story is a bit slow at times, but I find that movies of this type usually are. I think the writer and director want to make sure you follow what is happening so the action is slowed down so you can catch the clues that are given out. I like the ending because it did not close the story. Have to wonder how long Cillian's character can go on with two lives. He seemed near the breaking point at the finish to the film. If you like psychological stories I think you will enjoy it. Added attraction is no cussing and no blood shed. How did they ever get this movie made?

Only uneducated people would rate this lower than a 5! Simply a masterpiece. Piercing on a soul level, simply genius. Powerfull
The "creepy" fear that people endure living with, even after they escape abuse is captured artfully and cuttingly. This movie hits the hearts of watchers in a way that words do not seem to be able to do justice too. If any review is low--it's because most likely that person has no ability to grasp things on a deep visceral level. In my opinion this movie haunts one's soul just as much a learning about genocide. The all consuming helplessness and resignation to living a life of terror is given embodiment in this film. John had to die to continue living in that house. He was not ever safe there. Emma was the "split" that was necessary to tolerate staying there, in that home which contained such damning memories. It sounds like an entire life of brute torture was all John knew. Stunning, is all I have to say. Why didn't this get nominations? One of the best movies I have ever watched in it's ability to portray PTSD and "splitting". I am feeling feelings that I haven't felt since I read A Child Called It. I almost am nauseated from the particular brand of sadness given rise in this film. Simply remarkable.

Made me think about the effects of parental abuse. Why BROWN eyes?
This film illustrates how severe emotional abuse and physical abuse from ones mother can produce startling effects. Murphy's portrayal is palpable, real disturbing because you sense that John can't help himself and everyone around him is baffled. I was left with a few questions, that I'd appreciate hearing others views posted here:1) What was the reason the director chose to make Murphy's naturally crystal blue eyes dark brown? Did the dark contact lenses hide emotion, add to the mystery?***SPOILER ALERT***2) If John's disorder was so compulsive why did Emma use John's voice in the final phone call to arrange to give the money away? Seems like John would have had to do that DRESSED as John or did I miss a huge crux of the film??? Did this act demonstrate a cognitive break from his compulsion and demonstrate premeditated murder (of the bar dude)?I look forward to hearing from my fellow Amazon movie enthusiasts!

Dark Drama with an Amazing Performance from Cillian Murphy
Peacock [DVD] [2010] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC ]The product I bought is the Region 1 DVD. You will need a compatible device to play it in Europe, this is clearly stated in the product description and should not come as a surprise to any buyer. Cover notes and menu are in English, as are the film and bonus features. Optional subtitles are available in English and Spanish. The following Extra features are included: - "Welcome to Peacock" Making-of Featurette - Alternate Ending - Deleted Scenes - Cillian Murphy Rehearsal Scenes - Peacock Script (DVD-ROM Feature)Cillian Murphy gives a scintillating performance as the meek bank clerk John Skillpa, who leads a bizarre double life in the privacy of his home, protected from outsiders by a solid fence. At home, he dresses and makes up as a woman, doing household chores in the role of his imaginary wife Emma. When a railway car crashes through the fence and into his garden, 'Emma' is seen by townspeople and John Skillpa is forced into juggling the two personalities lest his secret be discovered. And as John switches between the two identities as circumstances require, there is a real battle going on between the two personalities, keeping the viewer guessing which will take over and live on in the town. This film is a very dark drama, with the writers and Cillian Murphy as an actor going places where few would venture. Hard to watch at times, but worth while, just as long as you don't expect light entertainment. If that's what you want, watch Breakfast on Pluto instead. The supporting cast is good, with Susan Sarandon's performance being worth a special mention. Peacock [DVD] [2010] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC

Cillian Murphy plays a married couple. Kind of.
The film itself is alright, well put together and perfectly watchable. A simple tale of a young man who works at a bank, and when a train crashes in his garden suddenly he's at the centre of the town's talk due to a strange woman that appears in his house.Ellen Page is OK in it. The supporting cast, including Susan Sarandon are all pretty great. But Cillian Murphy is astounding. It's probably my favourite role/s of all time for him so far. He is utterly captivating as this 'married' couple, and I've watched the film time and time again because of his performance/s. Basically, if he wasn't in it I would never have watched this film. He never fails to astonish me, and not long following this film I saw him play entire village of people on stage. And then a Brummie. Hard. Core.

Unusual film but one that is quite slow
The role played by lead Actor Murphy is quite brilliant, but this is a slow film that does not really hold much realistic credibility, good to see a lead actor in a diverse role and one that Murphy utterly excels, however, not a very good plot, a real missed opportunity of a film, disappointing overall

An enjoyable psychological thrillerFor me, the main problem with the film is the fact that the reveal that John and Emma are the same person is given much too soon. It happens within the first five minutes of the movie, even before the opening credits have rolled. I think it would have worked better if this was kept until much later in the filmt. That way, the viewing audience would have been in the same position as the townspeople, trying to unravel the mystery between John and Emma

Better movie if you skip first 3 minutes !!!
Strange decision in an otherwise artistic and impactful movie to give a heads up on the potential surprise at the start. I suggest you watch from 3 minutes in/the train crash
