This is a fabulous little set of Pompom makers that takes a lot of the time and trouble out of making Pompoms.It lets you get on with the creative bit of actually designing and making the Pompoms.And avoids the boring bits of preparation.It lets you avoid the hassle of cutting out cardboard rings and having to cut the cardboard after.The result quicker, easier and more enjoyable.It really stimulates you creative side.You get 4 different sizes to make as you would expect 4 different sized pompoms.All you do is pace the two same sized rings opposite each other- there are clear and well written English instructions enclosed (Not the 'Chinglish of some poor translations) but the system is really easy to work out anyway.Then you wind.The great thing about this system is that after making a few I was able to really focus on the design part I was able to plan exactly where the colours where and I was able to design the Pompoms so much better.The effects were amazing.(I will include a photograph to illustrate.)When you have sufficient wool you fold and join the two halves together apply the simple clips and cut the wool.I am a Primary Teacher who loves to have his class making and designing things.Easter sees chicks, Christmas figures nativity and the like and those fabulous walking puppet birds ala Emu with strings.I would buy at least 6 sets for the school and let a great parent supervised a small group.The parents love this hands on stuff and the conversation getting the kids to actually listen and more importantly be listened to is fabulous for the hidden curriculum.The effects at the end are brilliant for even the most less able child.Some tips.1. Instead of scissors I find that a very sharp pairing knife is much easier and quicker.2. It saves you valuable scissors from getting blunt. A knife is easily sharpened. (be sure to get adult supervision and cut AWAY from your hands, fingers and yourself.3. There may be a lot of fluff and dust from some of the more fancy wools so have a newspaper page underneath your cutting out to collect (and not on you lap as I found out to my dismay!)4. Take time to ensure the small white clips are correctly placed and be sure you check they have not popped out and fallen. This took a bit of gettingvusedcto butvit works well andca big improvement on using cardboard circles!

In theory this design for making pom poms is a great idea and certainly beats using cardboard. However, there are flaws in the design/material used. The clips that I had in the box were totally useless and would not stay. Once I'd wound the wool on both sides, I had to then hold it all together with one hand whilst cutting the yarn in the middle with the other hand. Think paying more for one made from stainless steel design or a more robust plastic would be ideal, as I don't think that this design made from this soft plastic will last very long before the centre hinge snaps. I eventually did get enough decent looking pom poms that I needed, but will not be using these again.

Quite easy to use but a bit fiddly until you get used to them. Good sizes in the set.

Fiddley at first but once I got in to the swing of it they were fine. The white clasps get flicking off which was annoying. Fine pointed scissors are a must.

No more cardboard rings !! This is so simple to use.

They are very flimsy. The locking pieces don’t stay in place .
