Amazing little kitchen appliance!
I have owned this product for several months now, and waited to write my review until I saw how it was going to hold up since some of the reviews made mention of the opener going haywire after a while. I am in love with this trash can. It is super convenient to operate, standard kitchen bags work perfectly in it, and I get compliments on it from everyone who goes into my kitchen. The built in odor neutralizer really works, too. I have had absolutely zero issues with this product, and am considering getting one for my utility room as well. I did get the AC cord so that it plugs into the wall, just so I didn’t have to worry with batteries. I was also concerned about it seeming to be a little on the small side, but I swear I can fit more into it than the ugly Sterilite it replaced. Since it’s metal, it wipes clean very easily, and fits perfectly where I wanted it. I had a SimpleHuman at my previous house that I paid about $200 for, plus the bags that had to go with it (since I couldn’t ever find a normal trash bag that fit correctly) and eventually I sold it with my last home. This one is MUCH cheaper, uses normal trash bags, and works as well (maybe even better). By far the best sensor trash can I can imagine getting at this price point.

No Odor, Easy with Dirty Hands, Keeps Dogs Out
I wanted a locking garbage can to keep my St Bernard puppy out. However, I bake a lot in a small kitchen and didn't want to get the lid dirty handling it all the time. So I chose to forgo the locking feature and go with a motion sensor. The odor blocker keeps the puppy disinterested. He could open it with the motion sensor, but he can't get his head in the lid opening. :) It keeps my hands clean while baking so I can throw out garbage without having to wash all the dough off and free up limited counter space mid-project. The can seems smaller than my previous one, but honestly it holds just as much. There is a rim to hold up the trash bag, which is great. It's taller and slimmer so it fits in my kitchen easier. It arrived well packaged, no scratches or dents. The only problem I have is the sensor can be too sensitive at times and the lid rolls open when the wind blows the curtains or I walk by. I'd rather have an over-eager lid sensor than a difficult one, though.

While the concept of this garbage can is good, the quality of it is not so good.
The media could not be loaded. The iTouchless SX lid opens by waving your hand in front of the sensor, and the motor then moves the pieced lid cover along a plastic, beaded chain to open the lid back into its cavity. When the lid closes, the motor moves the chain in the opposite direction and closes the lid. The lid does open smoothly. Unfortunately, the motor on my first iTouchless SX can would continue to try and close the lid even after the lid was already closed, resulting in a horrible grinding noise as the lid continued to push itself closed. I called iTouchless customer service and after trying to fix it by manually opening and closing the lid, they recommended an Amazon exchange. My second iTouchless can arrived a week later and worked as I expected it to. The lid open and closed smoothly, and there was no grinding noises. This wasn't to last though, as three weeks into owning the second iTouchless SX can it began to have the same problems as the first one; the motor would try to close the lid when it was already closed. We had not used the can in any other manner than its intended purpose. It was working perfectly fine one moment and the next moment, it started grinding the lid closed. I manually open and closed the lid per the previous instructions from iTouchless customer support, but that would only fix the problem for one usage before the motor would go back to trying to force-close the lid. If I held the lid in a vertical position (where the motor had to push up to close the lid), then it would close properly. Once I placed the lid horizontally back onto the body of the trash can, the motor would go back to trying to slide the lid closed even if it was already in the closed position. I contacted Amazon again and ordered a second exchange. When the third iTouchless SX can arrived, it has the *exact* same problem! I took the third can lid out of the box, plugged in the AC adapter, and when the lid closed the motor tried to close the lid even further. Frustrated, I called iTouchless customer service again. The nice lady on the phone thought it was odd, but immediately went into her "Amazon will exchange it" routine. After I explained to her that this was my third iTouchless can and it has just arrived at my doorstep 15 minutes ago, she put me on hold for a moment. When she came back, she said there was nothing that they could do and I would simply have to exchange it again.Amazon refused to exchange the garbage can a fourth time and refunded my money.I do not know if iTouchless sent Amazon a bad batch of garbage cans or if other consumers enjoy the loud, obnoxious grinding noise the lid makes and simply accepts the fact that it is a flawed design, but I would not recommend anyone to purchase this item. Unless your someone who *likes* exchanging items back and forth to Amazon, then feel free to purchase this garbage can!On a positive note, the can body itself never had any large dents and there wasn't an adhesive sticker on it, as mentioned in older reviews. I also never had a problem with trash bags ripping as they were removed from the can. I did have 3 weeks of enjoyable use out of it.

Needs rechargeable battery pack
The thing was good. It just had a huge cord sticking out of it and it really messed up the kitchen’s flow.

Lasted a year
I have to update this review. I have had this for one year. At first I thought it was great and I was very happy with this purchase. I dont normally spend so much on a trash bin but my past one looked pretty but was pretty useless. The motion detection was initially good leaving both hands free to clean up without having to touch the bin.We had sporadic issues with the lid no matter if we used batteries or the plug. You would end up having to touch the lid as it would get stuck in place. Finally it now does nothing and you have to fully take the lid off. Its quite a bit of money for a trash can and I would expect more than a year of life out of it. Tonight it's going out on the curb and tomorrow I'm getting a step one. I love the idea of a touchless mention activated trash can but this one is just a pain.
